My one and only daughter (40) came for a few days with my one and only granddaughter, 2 ½ for a few days. GD has dog so my two cats were a new experience for her. She wanted to “help” them eat and generally treat them like dogs.. The ole smart cat took off and camped under the bed. The young one, Basset just couldn’t stand having something around that made that much noise and was near to her size, so she hung around and always managed to stay just out of reach. 
So anyway, Basset discovers some of the baby dolls and gently took one out onto the floor. It happened to be a pig that if left immobile for a length of time will squeak and move it’s legs.. OH< she liked that  ,, stared at it and then put a foot on it to hold it down. ( may have to get her one of her own)
Suddenly granddaughter threw a wall eyed fit.. Screaming and crying and grabbed up not only that toy but all of them and piled them around her.. Seems she does not like to share.. I guess they out grow that phase huh? I don’t know nuthing about kids mind you.
She does “know” her ABC’s and will repeat them over and over, and we finally figured out that all her “songs’ are to the tune of Baa Baa Black Sheep( I think it is ) , which is the same tune for several other of her nonsense made up songs.
I also noticed that she does not move her tongue yet to say things,, which makes everything sort of monotone,, which Daughter said she will outgrow as she learns more.
WE, (She and I ) did “read” a book together, much to the delight and amusement of my daughter..
Daughter knows that I don’t DO kids, but we all got along real well.
They are off to the airport for the flight back to Portland Oregon and in three weeks they are off to Hawaii, again.. 
Durn kid has more airline miles than I do. :-(

At least you were able to visit with your daughter. You will miss the granddaughter. Dogs and cats learn to get along, Your grandchild will probably grow into a really neat young lady. I would suggest that you try to do KIDS, it will keep you young. Try being nice to the neighbor children and visit with their parents. Friends you get to pick, Relativies are your own fault. Have a nice day.

Ahh, the twos... it is an age when eveything the child has ever looked at, touched, imagined or held is "mine!"
I remember when we went o Disney and my son saw a child wearing the same exact pair of "hot wheels" sandals that my son owns. He had a fit - thought they were his!
There are some great books in the library (what to expect toddler years is good) if you want to learn more about child development, but you will also be fine just grinning and loving 'em

Ah well, if you don't do kids, be happy. You gave a good effort, and made some good memories. There is nothing wrong with folks that don't do kids, far better to know one's limitations and abide by them. (I don't do kids either-unless they have four feet and fur!)
