2000 E450 chassis with V10. The dash board heater will blow hot air only for 20 to 30 seconds and then blow unheated air. Fan and A/C works well. Shop wants $750 to repair. Has anyone experienced same problem? Is it a DIY or a shop job. Thanks

I think I'd try flushing the heater core first, prior to giving away that kind of money. It could also be some sort of relay problem, which is shutting off the heater valve, after you turned it on. I'm not sure, as I've not gotten that deep into my V-10, but I'm sure that others on this site have, and will be more informative.

After the 30 sec and cold air starts coming out, what happens if you stop and turn the engine off for 5 sec, will it give you another 30 sec of heat? or does the engine have to cool down?
It cant cost $750. Lets figure this out, I have the same unit.

sounds like the little door is not opening or closing for the heat to come out.

i have the same unit here and all data access.
My question is--they want $750.00 to fix what?

I'm not sure if Ford Vans are prone to this but in other vehicles an air lock can cause the heater core to be devoid of coolant. I have seen it in the past.
My first guess however is you have a door not opening in the duct work as previously mentioned. They are vacuum operated. You may have had some plumbing come adrift or a part broken. Trouble is you may have to dig behind the dash to get to it. Labor intensive.

You might check for low coolant. That sometimes is the cause. Just a thought.
