The SuperChips Cortex and the Bully Dog Triple Dog for gas have produced some good power and mileage improvements on the 4,8, 5.3 & 6.0L GM engines. Our company trucks are 4.8L & 5.3L Chevrolets. I have a 5.3L and 3.73 rear gears. It has the Bully Dog on it and has since 52K miles. It now has 126K miles. Avg combination mileage has been 17+. The guys who have the 4.8L's are currently running SuperChips Cortex on them. The mileage isn't quite as good but they say it has fixed the shifting problems under load. Our trucks avg. 200 miles a day mixed hwy/city.

The problem with "better MPG" is that the chips can manage to make a very small improvment in the efficiency of the engine over a small range. bacically you can ot change the laws of thermodynamics
Energy in = energy out.
To get more energy out of the engine you need more energy in...which is the fuel. The engines are pretty well optomized to provide a high efficiency over a broad range.

Sorry TXiceman got to disagree here. Engines as shipped from the factory are tuned for emmissions. Injector pulse, increased rail pressure and timing changes will allow you to make more HP and still use less fuel. It all depends on how close to the perfect air/fuel ratio you can tune. Factory engines waste fuel with the generic tunes they have to use.

The tuners will allow more power, but as Ken indicates it will be at the expense of fuel. I do believe good tunes can improve mileage and reduce EGT's in diesels. Gassers wont see the improvements diesels will.
Under normal use, the tunes should not matter other than if properly designed can improve mileage. The problem is keeping your foot out of it. It is difficult when new - but once you get over that, it can be a good improvement. You have a little more power if/when needed.
Tuners allow changing the tune and can be restored in the event your vehicle goes in for service. Replacing a chip will be obvious to the service technician and may affect warranties.
