My F250 with pds torque converter stays locked up when you let off the gas. It is an old 99 model.

I wonder why it is a conception tht they al unlock when you let off on the gas?

I onlyt run little mountains like the Smkies, but have never felt the need for an engine brake when pulling 9K.

The TC unlocks when you touch the brake pedal and will not lock up again until a certain speed which I don't recall precisely but something like 30 or 35 mph. Going down a steep hill with the exhaust brake activated sometimes requires a bit of braking with the pedal and this is where an unlocked converter is a problem since you can not use the exhaust brake again. I had the US Gear exhaust brake with no TC lock and now have the Banks with the TC lock. Makes a world of difference.

you are right snake. Nice to see a response from someone who knows what they are talking about.

I just did not comment on the torque converter coming unglued at that speed because I usually think I got a firm grip on things when I get it down to that kind of speed.

2006 is the first year the Jacobs Exhaust Brake was available for the Dodge/Cummins with the automatic transmission. You'll need to look at PacBrake,BD Brake, and Banks for the 2005 and earlier automatic trucks.

I have a lock up switch on my truck and it works pretty good in the mtns. You might have to get another valve body for your tranny or have yours tweaked some to have it lock up in 2-OD but it's definately worth it. My TT is about your weight and this summer I got to use it for the first time in the Ozarks. Starting from a stop at the bottom of the mtn, I would put the tranny in 2nd and once it got there I would hit the switch to lock up the converter and pull the hill in lock up @30mph and not worry about overheating the tranny. On the down hill side it did hold me back some, but nothing like what an exhause brake would do, but for the $20 it cost it was definately worth it.

I believe 05' is the only year you cannot add an exhaust brake onto . Has something to do with the thrust washer in the tranny .
