We are out in Cal City about twice a month. We were there last weekend.
I'd recommend that you come down the 58 and head north on the Randsburg Cutoff Rd. or go a bit farther to the 14 and head north a few miles to California City Blvd. (head east)
That way you'll get an idea of what you can find in town in case you ever need anything.
Taking the 58 east to Cal City Blvd. north is OK, but there's nothing much there but road. Come home that way if you like.
Keep heading east through Cal City proper on Cal City Blvd until you pass McDonalds and come to Randsburg Mohave Rd. - turn left. That road splits into Twenty Mule Team to the right (Randsburg is dirt road from there)).
You'll see the dump staion, they have two holes now! There's a big water tank out in the distance on your left....keep on truckin'.
Just past that tank is Esse Rd. and Past that, Borax Bill's. You'll see the RV sites and probably a police car or two. You can get your permits there or at the spot on Randsburg Mohave Rd. where it splits into Twenty Mule Team.

If your sons are interested in trying a bit of motocross there is an MX park off of Twenty Mule Team Rd. just past Borax Bill's.

Just about anywhere in that area is a good place to camp. The farther off of Twenty Mule Team you get, the fewer people you are apt to see.
Many people like to ride north over to Randsburg.

We'll be out there again on the 24th - can't wait.

Thanks everyone for the great info! Can't wait to get the Family out there and have some relaxing FUN!
Can't go this weekend, both boys got invited to a friend's birthday party- but going next weekend or the following. I've heard of a group going the weekend of the 24th from another forum. Are you part of that group jmattor?
Hope to meet some of you soon for some riding!

I know a few groups who'll be headed out the weekend of 10/24 - one specifically, will be off of Esse road, left turn before Borax Bill's.

.....We will be going that weekend, but it's just our small group of families in our camp. We head farther out past Randsburg Rd. Much less traffic out there.

I've got to do a bit of work on my toy hauler this weekend....installing Dexter EZ-Flex Equalizers and new shackles.

Never camped at Cal city. Have friends out in Dove Springs this weekend I hear the wind is brutal.
Another Bako. member so you must have a RZR what else? Kids? where do you usually ride?

Yes the wind was bad and very cold. Sorry you couldn't make it out this trip.

Dove springs is our favorvite place to camp but are always open to trying new places.

We have one 15yr old son who rides both a MC & ATV who loves having other kids to ride with. No fun riding with the parnets all the time.

You might want to think about this spot for Veterans' Day weekend. Just a thought.
