Hi. I think I will get a bigger 1500-2000 watt inverter for my 5th wheel.I see the inverter shouldnt be mounted near the batteries. Thats
the problem. My 5th wheel has only 1 storage compartment. The Storage compartment is Big,The batteries are in the front area and both battery boxes are vented to the outside, but the battery boxs dont seal tight and never could as they are on the small size.. I would really like to mount this inverter in the storage area because its just too large to mount in the 5er and running cables to far to power it isnt a good idea either,I could have it 4 or 5 feet away from the batteries but am I asking for trouble having them in the same compartment.

I wouldn't hesitate to mount it near the batteries if the batteries are ventilated to the outside.
I would also not hesitate to mount it 4-5 feet from the batteries. Just match the cables to the expected load on the inverter.

I'd go ahead and do it if the battery boxes are mountes, As Rich said a bit of weather stripping on the B-Boxes would not be out of line
Also, you can put in a vent and a commputer type fan or two.
In my case the batteries (All VLRA types, maintence free) are in the same compartment, along with fans to ventelate and move vapors out of the box

My solution was to mount the inverter in the side compartment next to the hydraulic system. Even though this is open to the front where the batteries are, there is no problem with corrosion. The 12VDC lines are no more than 14 inches long. And the whole thing works just fine.
