The US Army sponsorship will not go to Dale Earnhart Jr.
They signed a 3 year contract to sponsor the #39 Chevy driven by Ryan Newman.

"Sources confirmed the Army sponsorship was for three years, renewable at the Army's option after conclusion of the 2009 and 2010 seasons, respectively. Attending the news conference along with Stewart and Newman was U.S. Army Major General Montague Winfield, who explained that the decision was made to move Sprint Cup sponsorship dollars to Stewart-Haas from Dale Earnhardt, Inc., mainly because of what the Army sees as "the star power" of Newman and Stewart as drivers."

"We looked at these two individuals very closely, with great interest," Winfield said. "And we liked everything that we saw."

Was the sponsorship supposed to to Jr? I had heard weeks ago Army would not be back with DEI.

I had heard a commentator say that the Army deal was made initially due to Jr being at DEI, and that it was anticipated that it would follow Jr wherever he went. Perhaps, they felt it was in conflict with the Navy sponsorship,...who knows?

Dale Jr has the National Guard for his #88 Sprint Cup car and Navy for his #88 US Navy Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS for JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. He has nothing to do with the Army sponsor.
