I am new to this and am confused as to why i cannot pour the plumbing antifreeze into my fresh watertank when it is dead empty and draw it through my pump it just seems alot easier to me, i just did mine that way this past weekend i am parked on a seasonal site and never used my freshwater tank for anything else!!!

For those who use the freshwater tank for freshwater it's just easier to not have to clean/flush out all that antifreeze in the Spring.....

a "silly" waste to me. just get a cheap winterizing kit and pull antifreeze only thru the piping/pump. and complete draining of a fresh water tank is sort of a pain at least in my RV. sort of the same reason they make hot water heater bypass systems. why waste 6 gallons of AF?

It will take three or four times as much antifreeze when done that way and take a LOT longer to flush the lines in the spring. All of that being said, it hurts nothing if you choose to do it that way.

The kits bumpyroad mentioned are well worth the few dollars they cost, especially when you consider how much easier it is in the long run and the reduced cost for wasted antifreeze.
Easy to install too.
But if you would rather go the route of putting it in the tank, I suppose you can do that too, but prepare to do the eventual above listed measures needed sometime in the future.

I always just pour the antifreeze in the tank. We don't use it for drinking or cooking. I do flush it about 3 times in the spring. With the hot water bipass I only use 1 1/2 gal. When I use the hose and suck it out of the jug it takes 5 quarts. When it is in the tank I know that the line to the pump is protected.

1 1/2 gallon hardly covers the bottom of my fresh water tank and certainly can't pump enough out of that to winterize the whole system. I need at least 1 1/4 gallons pumped thru to do the job.
your tank must be shaped just right.

when i did mine i put in 3 gallons and still have some left in the tank the main reason i did it this way is because i did install the pump kit but could not get the pump to siphon it out but i did not realize i had to prime the pump but now i know and will try it again next year

Just winterized yesterday. All holding tanks already drained/flushed completely. Drained HWH, and FWT. After blowing out all lines with faucets and low points opened, then re-installing caps on the Drains.
Then removed the outside shower hose and screwed one end of it onto my inlet to my Sureflow pump. Coupling fits perfectly. Other end went into the Antifreeze bottle. Set By-pass on HWH. And hit the pump switch. Filled all the lines and stopped. Then went around and opened each faucet, and shower until pink came out. Let run long enough to fill drain traps. Then flushed the toilet, until pink was visible. Turn off pump switch and reconnect FW Tank hose at pump.
No tools needed. Used two gallons @ $4.00 each. No A/F in any water that could be injested. No flushing needed when de-winterizing in the spring. Took about 1/2 hour.
