James Island County Park in Charleston has the Holiday Festival of Lights, consistently rated as one of the top ten displays in the country. It's a three-mile, three-million light drive through the park. It runs from November 14 through January 4 this year. Besides the lights, there's a Santa and Mrs. Claus, trains through a lighted, wooded area not accessible by car, climbing wall, full-sized carousel, places to roast marshmallows and make s'mores, live music some evenings, and a lot more.
We're currently at JICP helping to set up the lights, and will be hosting during the festival. If you get here, look us up in Site 28.
It's almost impossible to get into the campground (right in the park, right across the street from the center of the festival) on weekends during the festival unless you luck into a cancellation, but Monday-Thursday there are often spots available.
Callaway Gardens near Warm Springs, GA, also has a great light display, not too far from FDR State Park and its CG's. There's a good walk-through at Bellingrath Gardens, west of Mobile, but no adjacent CG. Another fun event is Christmas on the River, a one-night event in Demopolis, AL. Don't know the date this year.
