Time to check out the 07+ Wrangler 4-door. Very nice ride IMO (especially compared to < 07)

You think a Jeep of any kind, will ride worse than a Geo Tracker. Have you driven a Geo Tracker
The Jeep, meets every requirement mentioned by the OP. Plus, it is a Jeep, There is only one.

Obviously, the poster wasn't familar with the new Wranglers. Our is the best riding Jeep we've owned, it gets decent gas mileage and is quite comfortable. We've put 14,000 miles on our '08 in 6 months none of it has been as a toad, haven't had the time to set it up yet. It gets around 18 mpg average for all styles of driving, is great off or on road. Of the 7 Jeeps I've owned it's one of the best ever, this one is a keeper,

I towed a geo tracker once. an "adequate" vehicle. when I made this decision last it came down to a Vue, CRV, or Liberty. I chose Vue due to highway driving comfort. Toyota auto trannys can't be towed 4 down IIRC. I would put the suzuki into the same class as a tracker. I would suggest a 2005/7 VUE myself.

Another vote for the VUE, it's mot a 4x4 buy you can get it with AWD. I get 25 mpg in town and 30 highway.

Don't discount the Ford Edge. Ours is an AWD and tows beautifully. It also rides very well and gets 24+ MPG.

After 14,000 miles, there is no sign of excessive tire wear or other problem.

It is, however, a bit heavy (4500+ lbs.) and we use an auxilliary braking system. Regardless, I have not seen much difference in fuel consumption and get a bit over 9 MPG when towing with a 330 ISC powered 30,000 lb. coach.

IMO the 2007+ Jeep Wrangler 4 door is the perfect toad. It's relatively light, has simple a 4X4 system, plenty of room, decent gas mileage, and will go almost anywhere. It fits in at the local Country Club or at the local Country Honky-Tonk. It is not an overly expensive vehicle. There are also many tow bar options for this vehicle. Plus, it's a Jeep!

You're right, the last wrangler we rented long term was a 2005 and had a 2001 before that. They did make great OHVs, but the hiway ride was like a bucking bronc. We tolerated it, because of our off road ventures, but now use our GMC 4X4 or our ATV. Even our ATV has a better ride than the earlier Wranglers. LOL

You're right Texan, previous to '07 they were tough on the highway. We got rid of our '03 and '04 Rubicons because of the ride and I dearly loved those Jeeps. We missed being able to really go off road and started longing for another Wrangler and we wanted something easy to tow. You know people can say what they want about their VUE's and their CRX's with AWD but they just don't understand what a Jeep can do. A stock Jeep will get you so far off the beaten track that they have to pump the sunshine in. When we are deep in the toolies, I have yet to see anything other than a Jeep. I just love folks that try to compare an almost 4x4 to a Jeep, they aren't even in the same class. If you want to REALLY go off road you need a Jeep, there is no discussion. As much as I hate to say it DC really took a great Jeep in the TJ and made it better in the current JK. It's smoother, quieter, more fuel efficent, and has better creature comforts.
