A PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful

2 Give me time to understand what it is you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could
hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting
old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say
you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them. Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God's critters. We do not have to wait for Heaven, to be surrounded by hope, love, and joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four legs!

True, True, True! RE: #10.. Held my cocker spaniel until he took his last breath. No amount of money would have stopped me from being with him. Took every bit of strength I had to do that, but I stayed with him.

I agree.

#10 hits home especially as our latest GSD is now 14. She is sleeping on my foot as I type.

I can't understand folks who just drop off their best friend at the vet to be "put down". HUH? Pay for a house call so your friend can go to sleep while surrounded by their home and family. Your vet will not do that? GET A NEW VET!!! Ours comes to our house and cries with us.

Our last 3 pets, an Australian Shepard, a dachshund, and a blonde cocker, have taken their last breath in our arms, and we wouldn't have had it any other way if we could help it. Our pet before those 3, another dachshund, died at my feet next to the fireplace hearth in her sleep one winter night.

I had to say "goodbye" to two of my K-9 partners back in 2006. I hugged them as tight as I could as God quietly and carefully carried their souls to Heaven. That "difficult journey" is never an easy thing to do. You'll cry for weeks and you'll never forget them. We need to be there for them as they are for us.

I love all my animals and take great care of them. That said, I always remember 1 thing. They are an animal and not a human. That does not mean I am cruel to them, but I do treat them like an animal and do not put them before humans and their needs, including mine. If I have to leave my cat alone for a few days, he has all his physical needs taken care of and he'll adjust and get over it when I get back. All this said, I'm aware that this opinion is not the popular one on this forum but I don't care....common sense must prevail. Someone must speak up and tell the truth.

That sounds like a Dog Owner's Ten Commandments! Shouldn't a Dog's commandments start with
Thou shalt not Bite!

And you thought this necessary to post on this thread, why?

Of course pets are animals.... geeze, nothing like stating the obvious. According to some owners they are disposable as well.

Let us remember that your truth may not be someone else's truth, like it or not.

To the OP, I enjoyed your list, thanks.
