That Ford truck w/Cummins and Allison might be a reality!

Whatever happens, I hope GM, Ford and Chrysler do well.

GM is dropping Pontiac and Buick, and probably GMC. Big layoffs soon, and dealers going under. Ford still has plenty of cash on hand and is trying to sell Volvo. Toyoto is setting up Prius as a seperate company, possibly merging all electric vehicles from Ford, GM, and Chrysler, which will give the technology a single strong company. Things are changing fast, as the world gets smaller.

With GM stock selling in the $2-4 range, and thier sales off 30%+, GM is NOT going to spend thier cash reserves to buy Chrysler LLC.
Unless of course, they want to go back on thier statement that "bankruptcy is not an option'
Spending Cash in today's no-credit market place would be financial suicide

GM stock closed at $4.89.

According to this link (very much like the link in the previous post) it is not about cash, they would simply be trading the remaining 49% of GMAC financing.

"The Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous sources, says Cerberus Capital Management -- which owns 80 percent of Chrysler -- proposed trading Chrysler's automotive operations to GM.
The Journal says Cerberus, which also owns 51-percent of GMAC Financial Services, would get GM's remaining 49-percent stake in GMAC in return."

GM was told years ago by insiders that they need to drop many of their car/truck lines. They have dropped the Oldsmobile line and need to drop one of their LDT line and a couple more of their car line. It doesn't make cents/sense to add more car/truck lines unless their doing what Boeing did and bought out much of their compitition and keep certain product line that are money makers.

I would support this merger, as long as Dodge Rams and some other Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep vehicles remain in some fashion. Perhaps GM/Chrysler could market the Dodge Rams as more worktype, rugged vehicles, and the Silverado or Sierra as more upscale luxury type trucks. I don't know, just thinking out loud. One thing is for sure, if GM were to completely destroy Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep altogether, I would switch to Ford and would NEVER buy any product from GM. Time will tell if this "merger" even happens.

Of interesting note to me, is the fact that none of this has been reported on www.allpar.com which is usually the about the best source for Chrysler LLC info. I will be checking back on that site quite often to get their take on this story.

The merger news was on the networks this morning although it will be somewhat protracted. Probably a good idea as both companies have the best in each of their trucks. For a Chev owner to get a Cummins engine must be enough to give them a tingle up their leg.....and for those Dodge truck owners who would actually want an automatic transmission...ie. Soccer Moms, Hockey Moms, no-tow owners, getting the Allison tranny would be desired....AND...all you GM truck owners will love having a truck that doesn't rattle and squeak.
