Whoa John, there is no end of public statements and tests regarding the use of K&N style filters that cannot prove any advantage to the oiled style.Just because some people read these and give more credence to them then user biased reports does not make them any less intelligent. You defend your actions and experience as if they are the only right ones, maybe not.We all have opinions based on many things and experiences, each to his own.I have tried them and don't think they are worth it to me,am i a naysayer or authority, not a chance.Do what you want.

I have a 2002 F150 5.4 gas.I have 144,000 miles on it with a K&N filter. More proformance,1.5 miles per gallon more. Now add the Evolution programer to this and my total mileage went from 11.2 to 14.7.adverage towing mpg 13.5.(7000lb.) I was a ASE Certified Master tech,so hopefully I know something about engines. But of course all my service is done by me personally.

2002 Ford F150 Super Crew 5.4 3.55 gears,Skyjacker 8000 shocks,Evolution Programmer,Prodigy Controller. Weight distributing hitch. 2005 Coachmen Spirit Of America 25 Foot,all options.

The only benefit to the K&N drop in filter is $$$. Flow improvements are negligible and dirt retention is about the same maybe a bit better. But with the Motorcraft 6.0L donalson filter at $40.00+ a piece the K&N pays for itself pretty quick.

Proper cleaning cycles and resisting the temptation to over oil will make it a great money saver. MAF meter fouling is caused by EXTREME over oiling, I've never seen a code from using a properly oiled drop in K&N. I have seen codes from the kits because they aren't properly engineered. The enclosed kits such as the S&B and Volate will lower EGT's just like EGT's are lower in the fall and winter months. More airflow of air from outside the engine compartment works. You can prove it to your self if you can read the intake temps. Just compare ambient temp with the intake temp.

How often are you replacing that filter. It holds 3 lbs of dirt. Most fleet companies go 80,000 miles on it. K&N flows no better than the stock 6.0l filter and doesn't do nearly the filtration job.

another K&N user here. 235000 miles on a old '90 chev 2500 5.7 4.10 gears that has worked hard for all those years and miles. I put the drop in K&N in the truck when the truck came home brand new from the dealer. My grandson has had the old truck now for about 6 months and for a engine that has never had the oil pan or intake manifold off it still runs great and still uses one quart of oil every 6k oil change just like when brand new. Would I use a drop in for my Cummins in my sig. Nope. But it does have a AFE Pro 7 filter that has over 115k and has reduced my EGTs when towing about 100 degrees.
I use what works for me. ...............Jim
