We are planning to tow our 5er to Port Charlotte Florida starting out on Saturday Nov 22nd.

The shortest route we have driven (by car) is I90 then I79 to West Virginia and then I77 to Columbia, I26 to I95/Jacksonville and down thru Florida via US301, then I75. But, we know that West Virginia is iffy in late November due to ice, sleet, snow and fog through the mountains.

So, we are looking at two options to go down I75 instead. On our trip software, they are about equidistant from our house west of Niagara Falls.

One route goes via the Windsor/Detroit Ambassador bridge and south on I75, the other would cross the border at Fort Erie/Buffalo and take I90 to Cleveland and then down I271 and I71 to Cincinnati and I75.

We have traveled the Detroit route before and it gets pretty bumpy/potholes towing our older fiver south of Detroit and north of Cincinnati on I75.

We haven't tried to the other route via Cleveland because we heard it is even worse on I71.

Anybody tried these routes? What's your experience/advice?

We have tried both and we prefer the 1-75 route but cross at Sarnia for a couple of reasons. 1-75 around the bridge is all construction and Sarnia believe it or not is the same length of trip since the 401 drops so far south and then comes back up between London and Windsor. We take the crossing at Sarnia and take I-94 to by-pass Detroit, then 475 to I-75 and roads are not too bad. We usually go to Sarnia (actually Wyoming) and stay at the Country View Motel and Campground. Even when they are closed they will let you park in the Motel driveway and plug into a power post for the night for $20. We then get up aroun 6 am and cross the border. Often we have driven right up with no one in front and other times maybe one person. This allows us to pass through Cincinatti well before rush hour and then we stay at the Cincinatti South Rose Garden RV park in Crittenden Kentucky. Have done this for several years. Oh by the way there is great refuelling stop right at the Countryview on the Oil Heritage road which is the access from the 402.
