to All RVers with the heavy 50 amp cables. If the box you plug into has the tabs, an el-cheapo lock will help. It guarantees that they must whack it off while it is hot because they cannot unplug or turn it off. It might at least slow them down. Permanently would not hurt my feelings a bit.
Yeah a few campgrounds have been hit. There is a lot more copper in those cables than in exposed house wire. And you are right. Go after the junkyard dealers and the market for the copper dries up, so no more theft of wire.

REALLY ????
Driving all the way to the end of Baja I don't recall seeing any full size truck with Mexican registration on it.
I better start locking cars and tools at my house.

Gotten so bad around here that they to have to hire security when building subdivisions. Guy building a house doesn't have a chance. Wiring, A/C unit', stoves, microwaves.
It has helped that they passed a state law for selling this stuff. Went to sell some aluminum cans and old aluminum wheel. Had to show them my drivers license. They wrote the number down, name, address and I had to sign the paperwork.

I rarely lock mine but then I park in the garage at night. I hope the stuff in the garage is worth more than the truck. It is unbelievable to me how many on my street park $100,000 vehicles on the street and have a garage full of stuff that would get maybe $1,000 at a garage sale.

I live in area with minimal crime. On my new construction whenever I want to finish the job for the day, I drop the tools where I stand, turn off the compressor and go.
Haven't locked my cars for 20 years and it would be sad to start now.
Pushing the gate close helps, although deers are constantly finding their way in. Those thieves prefer expensive rose plants to grass.

I'm generally not a fanatic about locking things up, leaving my generator sit beside my trailer and bikes left sitting under the awning but when I'm somewhere OTHER than the campground I keep my truck locked, tailgate locked and tonneau cover locked. Sorry to hear about the theft.

In speaking with a neighbor who was also a victim, only tailgates from Fords, GM's, & Dodges were taken. It appears the Japenese trucks had locking tailgates.
My 2008 GMC 2500HD long bed has a lock in that tailgate. Maybe I should start using it.
I like the gatekeeper product idea though, for the times I am lazy and forget to lock the tailgate.

Fords have had factory locks for several years. Mine has factory back-up camera; so it is locked pretty much 99% of the time. I wish they would tie the key fob into the tail-gate lock like the doors.
IIRC the lock on the tail gates of the GM's was a factory option when I was last shopping.
