Are the 19.5" wheels that come with the F450 any taller than what comes on the 3/4 and 1 tons? If they are, 3.73's could be a bit undergeared if theres much of a difference.

I just swapped my 3.73 to 4.10 in my 02 F-350. Dealership did the work for around 2000. I pull a 11,000# FW. Does a good job. I am wanting to sell the 3.73 gears. Not sure if they would fit in your truck though.

Are 3.73s even available for the rear axle in the F-450? The front shouldn't be a problem, but I haven't seen an F-450 with 3.73s, and that great big rear axle is only available on the F-450, and bigger trucks.
If it is a 6.0L PSD, I would recommend the 4.10s because the 6.0L PSD likes to rev a little anyway. It just feels like it has more giddy-up-go at the higher RPMs.

I would leave the axle gearing alone and instead add in a Gear Vendors overdrive unit. It bolts onto the end of the transmission (if 2wd) or transfer case (if 4wd). It is a mini automatic transmission with two gear ratios: direct 1:1 and overdrive 0.8:1. Doing the math, .8 x 4.88 = 3.90.
With the Gear Vendors, you have 2 trucks in one, a heavy puller with 4.88's when the OD unit is in direct gear and a freeway cruiser with 3.90's when the OD unit is overdrive gear.
