I also get the Calgon at Walmart. I have used it for over a year with good results. My tanks are odor free and my sensors are accurate. The tanks need to be clean to begin with. If they are loaded with "stuff" and dried up crusty TP, it is not going to be as effective. With a clean tank the Geo method will keep it odor free and clean. It has worked for me. By the way, any water softener will work, it does not have to be Calgon, just make sure it is water softener, not fabric softener. Good luck.

I have found the liquid Calgon Water Softtener at Wal Mart and Publix in Florida. Check in the laundery aisle near the fabric softeners. If you ask an associate, they will generally direct you to the Calgon Bath Oil Beads. That's not the stuff. So far, I have not been abloe to find the powdered, but I think the liquid is easier to use, just dump it in, no mixing like with the powdered.

Unfortunately after using the "Geo Method" a number of times I have noticed no improvement at all in my waste tank indicators which are still showing 3/4 full grey tank and full black tank when both are empty in my Roadtrek 190 Popular. I would be interested in hearing from anyone else who has had the same poor results using the "Geo Method."
Using water softening products is a preventative measure. You need to clean the sensors first. Then use the geo (or whatever) method to keep the gunk from accumulatng.
We have used a Calgon/laundry soap mix in the black tank in our current ride and not have had a problem with sensors. I still use the blue stuff for odor control.

Get mine at Walmart also. You may have to look pretty closely to find it in the detergent section as it will probably be on the bottom or top shelf since it is not a big seller!

Our SuperWalMart does not carry Calgon but two other grocery chains do here in south central Texas. But only the powder. We found the liquid on line at drugstore.com.

Look at the time and expense you've incurred to have a "clean" holding tank. I assume there are prizes to be garnered, and that the participants also use this or a similar method to "clean" their septics tanks at home (if anyone still has one of those).
If you really think that "ice trick' works, try putting a few trays of cubes into a bucket and slosh it around. You can't drive violently enough for it to do any good, the ice melts (so much for the "jagged" scrubbing action), and the ice stays at water level, bunched into the middle as you try to jiggle it around. (Does the same in your tank.) For those who claim it works -- driving around with plain water may have done the same.
I think I'll continue to use 35 cents worth of Snow Fresh or one of the other aerobic bacteria-based products like Happy Camper or Pirannha.

If your area of the country already has soft water then finding the water softener may be a problem but, you would not need it until you travel to a hard water area. Soft water is to make the detergent work better so even if you do not have the soft water additive you can still use detergent.

Readily available here at K-mart. By the way, I have never seen any of the tank sensors that worked right. Why they are even there is beyond me.
