I had an American Fox Hound that if sitting outside our sliding glass door would wait until you were looking and would chatter his teeth and shiver like he was cold. The funny part was he would only do it if he could see you looking at him. If you moved so he couldn't see you he would stop. It didn't matter the outdoor temperature he would do it because he just wanted in the house.

My Rhodesian will do that sometimes. Usually if its really cold out she'll chatter her teeth before going out the door - sometimes it gets her a coat!

One of our rescue pups popped his jaws and would sometimes chatter his teeth. The vet said it was seizures.

We had a miniature poodle that did the very same thing, we called it his "Little Match Girl" impression. He did it even if it was 85° that day.

One of my cat's teeth chatters whenever he sees something outside that gets him excited (a bird or squirrel, etc.).
