Anyone have a good portable air compressor they could recommend? I got one from the local Karen auto parts store and it barely gets to 70 PSI, even though it says its rated to 230PSI. I think it will get up to 230 PSI, but it will probably take about an hour. I need the compressor to get to 80 PSI so I can fill my rear tires on my tow vehicle. None of the local gas station can even come close to 35PSI. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Viair is one of a very few brands that perform as advertised.
Not cheap.

If you look on Pg 3 of Harbor Freight's current sales paper, you find a 1.75 HP, 5 gal air compressor for $99.99. It's a bit more than you want pay, but it should do the job for you.

If you are looking for a 12 volt DC compressor. I have a MV50 SuperFlow. Has no problems inflating my tires over 95 PSI.

Rig up a CO2 bottle; much handier and lighter and can use in remote locations w/o electricity. Mine cost abt 160 dlrs to rig up. I think maybe Lowes now has them already rigged up ---- for pneumatic nailers, etc. I used to carry an elec air compressor. Tried 12 volts for on the road, but too weak and slow. Co2bottle much better.

Do a history search. CO2 bottle rig up has been discussed extensively.

One vote for Harbor Freight. I use a 2 hp 8 gallon one that I bought for $89.00 and it works great. When I go to the beach and have to air up it takes me 30 min. to fill 10 tires. This is the one that I use.

Not hijack this thread or anything I am also looking for a compact air compressor to mount permanently that will do what we are asking. Inflate to 80 psi without taking an hour. Something that runs off my gennie.

In the past someone posted a trailer mounted onboard air compressor set-up that had plumbing to the wheel wheels and everything. Can't find the post thru seach right now but i think it was based on a hot dog twin tank construction air compressor like a Hitachi EC12. This is a 2HP -120V compressor.

Back when I had my Raptor one of the members in this forum posted about a deal on B&D Air Compressor on sale at Target for $29 or $39 - I raced down and picked one up. Still going strong and for the price I couldn't beat it.
