I use this one...it fits in an overhead cabinet, will get over 100 psi in a reasonable amount of time, and will run off a pretty small inverter if your gen is not running. It has a regulator built in so, you can use a "clip-on" air chuck... set the regulator to the pressure you want and go do something else while it fills the tire.

Take a lot this website (griotsgarage.com) and look at their 12V Compressor. The owner (Richard Griot) is a car nut and the website is for high-end/ultra high quality stuff. He warranties ALL of his stuff for life--no questsions asked. I have the compressor and it works great. We are on a trip through TN right now, and I used it this morning to top off my tires at 80 PSI. Screw on the chuck and go do something while it does the work. Great product and very affordable--I think around $60.

One vote for Harbor Freight. I use a 2 hp 8 gallon one that I bought for $89.00 and it works great. When I go to the beach and have to air up it takes me 30 min. to fill 10 tires. This is the one that I use.

+1 for this set-up works for me too

I bought a 17 gal 1.5 horse Craftsman and removed the tank from the "motor". The motor is mounted in the front storage compartment and plumbed to the tank mounted next to the genny (bewteen the frame rails). I connected the output to my existing lines running to the garage, each wheel well and one to the front for the truck. I also mounted an extra 5 gal in the back behind the axles. This was in addition to the OEM 12V compressor and 3 gal tank.

The connection near the front axle.

All connected with clip-on tire chucks. Connect all six and wait for the regulator..

I tried the 110V Campbell Hausfeld 1 Gallon Air Compressor which was listed up to 130 PSI and it would not even fill up my trailer tires to 50PSI. The tank would fill and the gauge was reading a little over 100PSI but it would not put out enough pressure to top off the tires, pathetic so I returned it - it was nice and portable/light though. Still looking for a replacement myself.

mknj235, what type of hose were you using? I had issues with the cheap coil types, but when I use my normal hose I don't have problems.

What about something that is self contained? Rechargeable battery powered compressor? Anyone use something that puts out what it claims? The one I have claims 230 PSI but lets just say I have my doubts, seriously!

There is one very important thing all of you need to look at when you are looking for a compressor. "The size of the tank" This has a lot to do with how the compressor works or how hard it works. The smaller the tank the harder it works. Like the post copter put up, they used a 17 gallon tank so they could air up three tires at a time.

I was actually using the small plastic coil that came with the unit and did not even think to try the large rubber one off of my garage compressor. Perhaps I will give that a shot and see what happens, I was amazed it would not top off 50 PSI tires on the TH.
