We have also have no choice, and have to use RV storage. Never had a problem for years. Then, when getting the trailer for our first trip this season, I noticed that the spare wheel and (brand new)tire had been stolen! Money is very thight right now, but as soon as I get the money for a new tire, I am also going to buy a lock for the spare, and maybe locks for the wheels on the trailer too.

We always use the deadbolt when parked in CG or on our rv pad in our yard.

I think before I would use a storage lot, I would look around for a friend or even a stranger who has a home with lots of room to store my TT and pay him a monthly fee to to so. I think the storage facility is a last resort thing. Some people even have used the fair grounds to store their TT's inside the large buildings, but unfortunately, kids get in there also and they are protected by the walls so they can take their time to go through each and every one of the TT's and load up their cars with a lot of televisions etc.

The storage site where my unit is stored was broken into this last weekend. The theves went around with a pipe and tried to pop open the doore to the RV's. They were successful in actually getting into only on the 4 RV's (out of approximately 50) who's deadbolts were not locked. Now my door lock is broken but my TT is secure due to the deadbolt. Not sure why they cared enough to not simply break a window or something to gain access but I am glad they didn't. ALWAYS USE YOUR DEADBOLT....

They probably didn't care, they were merely in a hurry or lazy or both. A thief truly dedicated to his craft would have been in any trailer he wanted into, deadbolt or no.
The main thing this incident points up is, do NOT leave any valuables in your RV when it is in storage. Making sure ALL the locks are locked will help, but it will not prevent a dedicated thief from getting in.
Good luck.

I replaced the OEM single cylinder lock with a Class 2 double cylinder lock (requires a key to open from inside also) for $20 worth of peace of mind. It would have been easy to reach the old lock's latch from the broken door window. Now if someone wants in bad enough, it might happen, but they won't be exiting through the door.

When I stop to eat along the way, my TT is never locked.

Though I can pop my Trailmanor up in about 5 minutes, I suspect that most bad guys could not.

I dead bolt it in the campground when we are gone.

At home it is folded down and in the locked garage.

The primary reason we bought the Trailmanor was to avoid storing it across town. I save $100 per month in fees and I don't lose any sleep worrying about it. So far I have avoided over $4000 in storage fees.

Let's face it guys. The crime is on the raise and is not going to stop soon.
I heard old stories that in former Soviet Union you had to walk around big vehicles at gas station, because thieves would take whatever they could at that time.
We are not at the bottom

It's not only the Door locks that are generic but also the storage Boxes (Basement) and compartments, and even the drivers side door lock! Any and all of the O.E.M. "Locks" can be unlocked using a pocket knife and a little patience.

It would really make sense to just take everything of value Out before storing the Rig and leave the Door Unlocked!

Funny thing is that we chose this site because it was in a great part of town and they had ON SITE managers who actually live on the premisis. The fence company that sides up to the storage facility appearantly was hit pretty hard too, I have been told it was suspected gang activity...

What do you do at the campground at night leave the key in the lock?
