We have 31 foot Class "C" V 10... tow either our Ford Ranger flat, or our Ford Taurus on a dolly. The choice depends on whether or not the grandkids join us. Have had no trouble with either... but the Ranger flat is much easier.

We just picked up the Kaddy SS this weekend. Its pretty cool. I think we could have gone without the folding neck, but it does make for easier storage. The auto steering function on the dolly makes a good track right behind you (providing you remove the pin--durf!).

So far the toyota camry liked it all the way, didn't burp at anything. I have the backup camera so it's a whole lott easier on the mind as to whats happening back there. Although I do want to question the brakes, it seems that I am doing alot more braking effort than I think I should, and I'm no starnger to towing things.

So far its working, you will find some other recent threads about the same subjects.

Thank you or the info. My husband had used a dolly many-many years ago and fought with it for 2000 miles towing a car of ours while we moved. He just told me that he thought there was a dolly that tracked with the tow vehicle. I will check this out if we can not flat tow, although it appears that we may be able to after all. That would be our first choice so as to not have to deal with the dolly.

I would much rather buy the right vehicle to avoid a tow dolly, than deal with one, and that is exactly what we did.

When traveling in a motorhome towing a vehicle with or without a tow dolly, you cannot back up. So a quick disconnect handles predicaments with ease. We can unhook our car and drive away in both vehicles in under 60 seconds. Try that with a tow dolly.

We'll be towing either a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4 down or a 19.5' Campion Allante. The boat weighs about 2800 lbs (280 tongue) and the Jeep scales in at about 4000. Haven't done either one yet, but next Summer.....

We got out of our truck, 32' travel trailer and truck camper to kill THREE birds with one stone!

Cheers

One point worth noting here.........

Some people complain about severe front tire wear on their towed vehicles. It seems Jeep Wranglers have the most complaints, but that could be simply because of their popularity and the popular modifications people make. It makes perfect sense that changing wheel offest & tire size will be influential.

I think the general rule for any manufacturer approved tow vehicle should be.......Keep Your Tires And Wheels The Stock Size Per Manufacture Specs.

This last Thursday I got CW to setup the whole thing. It seems to work really good and the guy at St Augustines CW (Mike) did a really good job of wiring and assembling everything. So now I am happy to say that the TOAD is a 2008 Chevy Colorado 4x4 Auto pulled 4 down.

For any of you that tow using a Tow Dolly, what has to be done to the vehicle if it is an automatic front wheel drive. Is a Tow Dolly an acceptable means to carry your toad and how much hassle would a Dolly be? SOOOOOO many questions. LOL

We use a Kar Kaddy with surge brakes for our front-wheel drive, auto tranny Corolla (see signature line). It is pretty easy to set up - in fact, only takes us about 5 minutes to have it ready to go or to unload. (Not as difficult as some here would have you believe!) Just drive it on, hook down the wheels and go.

The auto steering wheels keep it tracking behind us beautifully. The Corolla is only about 2300 lbs., so with the weight of the dolly, the total package is about 3100 lbs., well under our towing limit. It was actually muuuucchh cheaper for us to buy the dolly than to buy a car that could be towed flat and get the car set up and wired for aux. brakes, etc.
