We are thinking of relocating to Ft. Myers. I want to come down for a month this winter and check things out. I want a recommendation on a first class rv resort to stay at while we look around the area. We do not want a retirement park or place like that due to kids coming with us. Thank you in advance.

If you are thinking of relocating, and want a good test of that community, try looking at; 1. summer-pick a 2-4 week period and see how you like it; 2. RV storage- see what is available, and for what price.

Two years ago, we stayed at the Fort Myers RV Resort (part of the Wilder group) on US 41 about 8 miles south of Fort Myers and 28 north of Naples. It suited us for the amount of time we were there (one month). And they permit kids.
We did not stay at Shady Acres because the sites appeared to be small and crowded; plus, the entrance makes the place look like a dump. It isn't once you are back in it, but again -- it would have been a tight fit for us.
Choosing River Bend, rather than a more centrally-located park, would mean a lot of extra driving to get to most points of interest.

I suggest you come down in Feb or March when the roads are so crowded that a normal 20 minute drive takes 1 hour or more. Also go out to dinner any night and wait about an hour or more to get a table. Then come down in July and August when it is so hot and humid you won't want to go outside. Don't forget hurricanes. I have 4 to 5 years before I retire than I'm outta here. Been here for 25 years it's not all it's cracked up to be. If it was'nt for my wife I'd have left years ago.
