I have a Yamaha 3000 SIB generator I use occasionally to power my motorhome. due to illness I was not able to start it for almost a year. I finally felt up to it and went out and started it yesterday. Needless to say the battery was dead, however I did get it started using the manual crank. It would run approx 30 seconds and shut off and would not restart, however if I let it sit for about 5 mins, it would restart again and run for the same amount of time before shutting down. I checked the air filter and the only gas filter I could find was in the tank. Do you think after all that time I could have aquired water in the gas? Any other thoughts on what it could be. Oh, it runs perfect for those 30 seconds, no missing, sputtering or anything else. thanks

If the gas is one year old I would remove it and put in fresh gas. The old gas in the carburator would need to be drained as well. After sitting a year, maybe the jets are clogging up. If that doesn't work or you already have fresh gas then have the dealer look at it. I've heard that these generators perform better in the long run if they are "exercised" occasionally.

Sounds like low oil to me. If after 30 secs of running the oil isnt at level, it shuts down.

Low oil, fuel shut off valve or faulty needle and seat in the carb.
