On another forum a person mentioned Chief Joseph State Park but did not say where it was. Not even what state it was in. Can anybody tell me where this park is located?

Bob,

There is a Chief Joseph Park located in Harlowton in central Montana. I don't think Chief Joseph "State" Park exists. Were you thinking about the Nez Perce National Historical Park? That is the location of the gravesite. Try this link.

Bob, I've spent a lot of time in the Northwest and am not familiar with a Chief Joseph State Park. They may have been referring to Chief Joseph Days near Wallowa State Park in NE Oregon, or Chief Joseph Scenic Highway in Wyoming. Could be really old or really new, too....or maybe I just don't know. I was born right in the middle of Chief Joseph country. If you find out, let me know.

I found out that the correct name is Chief Timothy State Park. It is on the Snake River, down stream from Lewiston, ID. I don't know whether it is in Idaho or Oregan. The person said it was nice.

Ah, yes....just a few miles west of Clarkston in Washington. Not sure you can overnite there, though. Not even sure it's open...think they were doing some work on it. Better check it out more closely if intending to visit. It's an island park on the Snake River.

Chief Timothy State Park is located on an island in the Snake River, eight miles west of Clarkston, Wash. No camping at the park.

Thanks to all who replied. We love the area and expect to spend some time there in late July or August or both.

If you like the area, recommend Wallowa State Park, NE Oregon. Lake, mountains, fish, canoe, horseback, hike...and it's beautiful. About 100 miles south of Chief Timothy/Clarkston area. Feel free to Email if I can help...Summutt Steve.
