RE: dollars changed to pesos

Thanks for all the replies. We have been coming to LaPlaya for 8 years and have NEVER used an ATM. Two residents of the park got their card numbers stolen from a group in Mexico City and they had quite a time getting it all straight. I prefer to play it safe. We have used the money changers at K21 before and if they are still in business would use them again. They tend to be just 1 point behind the posted rate. Don't mind giving them a little income.

dollars changed to pesos

I am getting reports from the LaPlaya RV park that some people have had problems at the bank in Calle Doce and banks Hermosillo getting their dollars changed into pesos. Has anyone else in Kino had problems?

Thank You

I would like to thank everyone for all the information I used from this forum. We started for Alaska from Mexico the end of April and returned home the end of July so were on the road for almost 3 months. We started from Prince Rupert on May 14th on the ferry. We got on and off 10 times at the different ports and spent 3 weeks in the Inside Passage. The people loading the vehicles on the ferry were just great. We had to back on twice. The first time my husband drove the second time the men asked my husband if he would like to have them back us on and the answer was a big Yes. We had only one mishap when the rear jacks kind of got hung up on the ramp. We have a 34' fifth wheel and a total of 51' with the pickup attached. If you are going to do the Inside Passage I suggest you do the whole thing. The ports with cruise ships are not pleasant but you need to see it to believe it. My favorite port was Sitka. Once we got on the mainland I agree with everything said about bad roads. We kept our speeds in the 40's and still before we were through had two rocks on the windshield and two blown tires. We took the advice from here and had an extra tire. We stopped early and had no problem with getting rv sites. I did make reservations when we stayed in towns like Anchorage and Fairbanks. The advise to get the Guide to Alaskan Camping was a good one and if I had read the small print on the back about updates on line we would not have gotten lost in Valdez. Trailer Life just does not have nearly the information that this book does. I also used the Milepost and did not realize just how much until we headed East for Michigan through Canada and I no longer had my personal tour guide. Through out our trip we NEVER met an Alaskan that was not more than willing to give us help or information. They are really the most accommodating people. We did the Top of the World, road?!, and it was as reported. But if you are going to do Alaska you need to take it. You do not want to miss Chicken!! The forest fires were causing a lot of haze so we missed some of the vista. We also met a bus up there but were forwarned by the pilot car so had a chance to pull over and we were on the inside so that was a relief. Took lots of pictures and will remember the trip, roads and all.
