RE: Top Oregon Coast & Washington State Parks?

Coming up the coast from Long Beach, there are several nice private parks there and Cape Disappointment is a must do..Really need early res tho.The KOA at Bay City is nice and right almost on the water. Going north from there, after you go thru Raymond, head for the coast on#105 and there is a nice private park at Tokeland where the waterfront sites back up to the beach. The next one is Grayland SP and is s'posed to be RV's only, but some tenters have figgered out how to sneak in.That's a res park also during the summer. Twin Harbors at Westport is kinda small.Heading north thru Aberdeen to the beach at Ocean Shores is Ocean Beach SP and then farther north is Pacific Beach SP..On up the peninsula is Klaloch,no h/us,and several NP,FS and state cgs on 101.Once you get to Port Angeles, you'll find several more parks and at Port Townsend is Fort Worden SP and Point Hudson RV Park, both of which are don't miss cgs.

RE: Redmond, OR

I have stayed at Crown Villa and it is a REALLY nice place and probably only about 20 minutes from Redmond.. I haven't stayed at Crooked River,so don't know anything there. It's about the same driving time though.. Crown Villa is just on the south side of Bend and that's a great town to find just about anything you want to do.. I'd plan on staying about an extra week to see everything there is to see in the area.

RE: Northwest Spring Rally, May 14-16, 2010

Veebyes. I was there in '63 to get some engines changed on a KC-97 tanker and we had about 4 days off. We were all running around in shorts and tee shirts as it was 60 degrees there. All the guys at the base were in heavy coats and we were in the middle of an April blizzard when we left Dover,De..
We rented some of those bikes with the motors and one of the guys got a speeding ticket going down a hill.;I had an accident coming back from the beach one day as I saw someone coming out of an intersection and laid my bike down.It was one of those places with the mirrors on each corner and what I saw was me in the mirror..Cost me a few beers for that one..
Just got back from Belfair SP and had a good time there.21 miles each way and 1/2 hour, plus $6 a night not a bad trip..Weather wasn't too bad, poured like heck as we got there and then stopped as I started to unhitch..Had to camp in the woods as the front sites are all closed for re-hab and are looking really nice.. All re-graded and re-seeded grass, some trees removed and drainage improved so it won't be quite as wet.. It's really gonna be hard to get into pretty soon.. All of the h/u sites were full and ther were also several boondockers. The new thing there is using it as a base camp for trail riding in the Tahuya Forest area..

RE: Northwest Spring Rally, May 14-16, 2010

Oh boy,it looks like Belfair state park for a couple of days..I need to get outta the house and I think that Jeanne does too.I have been sealing the basement walls in the laundry room and that is a real chore. This place was built in the late 30's and the concrete work isn't the best and has a lot of little pits in it and also places where the nails,or soemthing, are poking thru the walls. I have had to plug some holes, patch some places where it's kinda broken out, plus having to clean that durn white stuff off the walls and then cover a couple of places with a thin coat of cement where it looks as if there was oil or something spilled on the wall. Then I am painting this stuff from Behr on with a brush and you've got to cover everything including all the little pinholes with the stuff so that there is nowhere the water can come through. When I'm all through with this, then you have to put on a second coat, but you can use a roller for that..AAGghhhhh !!!!!!

RE: Excavating Backyard for RV Sewer Drain

1/4" per foot is the minimum for proper draining. 3" is the minimum diameter of the abs.
It is also important to remember not to give it much more than 1/4 inch per ft slope because if you give it to much slope the liquid will run to fast and leave the solids behind which will eventually result in a plugged sewer line.
Humm, guess I'm just gonna have to add extra water if I put mine in as my pad is about 150' from the tank and about 40' above it..Man,it'll be going like mad when it hits the tank.. Guess I'll do like the poster that put his own little tank in did...
( I have about a 10% grade from the street to the RV parking area.)

RE: Itching for Camping Weather!

Boy and we just had our first snowstorm,1/4", of the winter and we've actually had less rain than usual and the only reason we didn't get out last month was that we were too busy to do it and the rig was in for repair a couple of days.I'm getting the Dexter EZ Flex system installed..We're planning on heading out early this next weekend to a local state park about 20 miles from here, where we'll have plenty of space to walk the dawg and park it in a waterfront site on Hood Canal.
Next month, weather permitting,or ecen if it doesn't we're heading for Iowa,Ill and Wi the last week in April and a couple of weeks in May.Then back here in time to head for the NW RV.net rally in Kelso...
Man,it's great living in the beautiful Pacific NW...

RE: Good Sam ERS renewal Misinformation

In my area there are several tow companies and they are all under contract with several road service providers.Like was said,it's not the provider that leaves you on the road, but the tow company that's probably busy.
When I had AAA,I got Chico towing, when I had Allstate,I got Chico towing and with GS,I get Chico towing so that's how it works.
I can't see why you only have coverage when you bring your RV out for a trip,I have it so that if anything happens when I'm driving any of my vehicles,I'm covered.Like was also said,"I have insurance so that I'm covered if something happens and I can only hope that it doesn't"

Hey kid,do you want a tow on the trailer????
Also, since you JUST got the 'Burb, mebbee they would at least pay for part of the tranny repair..They should have caught it when they were checking it out when they took it in...Where did you get it???

RE: Northwest Spring Rally, May 14-16, 2010

It also depends on where they ride when you are traveling. If they learn to ride in the trailer, then you're good to go. I would advise a little bit of Happy Traveler for the first couple of days so that they don't freak out and make sure they know where their litter box is..I have traveled with a couple of cats in the car and contrary to what an abnormal cat lover will tell you,it can get dangerous. I had to do a panic stop and the cat riding in the back window, got launched and went absolutely berserk and we couldn't get him to stop. He was absolutely balistic, flying around the inside of the car and scratching and biting us when we tried to get him.. His sister, however, was ok.. Figger..But then,we didn't have crates or carriers then either.

RE: Looking for an RV Park near Seattle/Bellingham with pool

Ok,I was wrong..I was thinking Vancouver...I used to drive it in a bus and that was a long round trip..Tourists can be a pain.
After looking at a bunch of places,I think that if you need a pool.the KOA is going to be your best bet even with the cost
I am not a KOA basher as we do stay at a lot of them and have never had a bad experience with one.I did cancel my res at Billings and West Yellowstone 'cuz the put me in upgraded spots and then charged my CC in advance for the whole cost as a deposit. Other than that we have stayed in a bunch west of the Rockies.

RE: Looking for an RV Park near Seattle/Bellingham with pool

Do you mean Seattle-Bellevue area? If not they are about 5 hours apart..I think that the KOA may be the only place with a decent pool,BUT they are kind of spendy.Believe it or not, there aren't too many RV parks close-in to the Seattle area.

RE: Slide out maintenace

I also didn't lube mine as per Lippert for a while and then statrted doing it about once a year or so.I do the rubbers every few months on an irregular basis.Irregular as that's when I remember to do it.
This winter the second day of our Ca trip, the front, main, slide wouldn't come in more than 6" and would bind up... I cycled it a bunch of times and finally, making a bunch of noise,it came all the way in. Got it to an RV repair shop and this old guy got a can of lube and lubed the heck out of it and it cycled just as nice as could be.The owner told me that one of the first things this old guy taught him was that you should always keep your slides WELL lubed. So,I will do that on a very regular basis and not just several weeks, but after so many uses and also depending on the weather on the road..

RE: Stopped at a Super Wall-Mart today..stopped selling RV items

I was in our local one yesterday and they have some of the normal stuff;sewer stuff, some electrical stuff, hoses and a bit of miscellaneous things that I would need for emergencies at a really good price. They seem to have a LARGE selection of tent camping things.Another item is their selection of engine oil, which is better and cheaper than any of our local parts stores. I found Rotella T6 for 19.50 a gallon.
One other interesting thing was that they had a good supply of Washington Husky clothing, but no WSU Cougar things.I asked the manager and he said that it goes by zip code as to which is closest and not sales.Sooo, since WSU is on the other side of the state,we don't get it.It has been shown that there are more WSU fans here than UW.. Go figger

RE: Making reservations

If I'm traveling in the summer or spring break, then yes.. Seeings as how I'm now retired and don't have to travel at the popular times of the year and weekends, then no I don't.
Went to Ca this Christmas and the only reservations I made were at the RV park in Oceanside 'cuz we were going to be there for awhile.Good thing too as it was full the whole time we were there.
Didn't need any res for the rest of the trip at all.
Going to the midwest this May and don't forsee any reason to use them on that one either.

RE: Which states parks offer 50% off with Golden Access/Age Pass

The Golden Age Passport is honored wherever the Washington & Oregon State Recreation Pass is honored.
Where did you find that info? I could not find any mention of this on either WA or OR state park web site.
Several years of travelling through Oregon and Washington is how I first learned of this. It is not accepted in ALL Oregon and Washington parks. Why some do and some don't is beyond me. The state web site reference is: Link Scroll down to "Senior/Access Passes" question 24.
the problem is that it is only valid for DAY-USE areas only. It doesn't say anything about camping..

WOW..:B:B.. That's great news.... I s'pose that I could be one too,but the oldest GS,23, is in Youth Corps in Astoria and doesn't date much and the youngest GS is 19 and just broke up with his girlfriend..
Heading out for Belfair on Sunday for a couple of nites....Picking up the trailer tomorrow from the shop and bringing it back home till they get all the parts. It seems as if Six Roblees, the local Dexter dist, only orders once a week and didn't get my parts on this order,so I can't get it done till next week sometime..Soooo,no meetings next week,so it's out to the local SP.
