RE: Delivery times, 2010 Cougar

I ordered a 2009 Montana Hickory Edition last January and they changed and came out with the 2010 model early. I got the 2010 but it took about 7 weeks or so from the time the order was placed. Same thing happened to us on the 07. We ordered an 06, but when it came in it was an 07. Same price.

RE: Delivery times, 2010 Cougar

3-4 weeks ago I was about to order a Cougar. Dealer told me 6-8 weeks. I called Keystone and at that time was told they were scheduling for the end of March. When I asked what that meant she said anything already in the pipe at this point will be scheduled to be sent to the line to be built around the end of March meaning a June delivery. That was about a month ago. I ended up taking a unit the dealer had ordered for stock which had been ordered in January and which was just finished last week. I'll actually take delivery April 1. When I asked the dealer (Bath, NY) about the discrepancy, they just said they always quote 6-8 weeks, but that they would check with Keystone. I bought somewhere else. ****You can call Keystone and give them your order number to get a better idea***

RE: landing gear FOPA!

Ahhhh...Faux Pas! With it in all caps I thought it to be an acronym for something, but all I could find were things like Formula One Photographers Asoociation and Fraternal Order of Police Associations! LOL FUBAR and SNAFU I get as they are acronyms... Carry on.

RE: keystone cougar fifth wheels

Go to the Keystone web site (www.keystonerv.com). It lists the trailers in order of quality. huh? The Keystone folks would not agree with that statement. Keystone makes as good a product as any other in the price range. They're all built fast and cheap no matter what brand you choose, but Keystone sells more than many of the others put together...there must be a reason for that. We had a 2007 Keystone Springdale that we had zero problems with in 4 years and about 12,000 miles. I can only hope our 2010 Cougar will be as good. Best wishes to you in your search...See Mike Boerum at Beckleys RV in Thurmont, MD for the best deal you'll find in the US on any Keystone product. PM me for details if you'd like.

RE: Bent My Landing Gear - anyone else?

Haven't done it yet, but could be me next time! I use a mental check list that includes 2 walk-arounds prior to pulling away with the camper. Both walk arounds include checking windows, awning, doors, spare, tank valves, visual tire inspection and under the camper checks.

RE: Hello Houston, we have a problem

...and the cops??? Their advice was, "Put on your brakes?!?!?" Not "put it in NEUTRAL?!?!?!" I am completely losing faith in humanity... Most people are just too stupid to live. How do they make it to adulthood? Just so you know, the people you talk to when you call "the cops" are civilians trained to operate computers. They are not sworn law enforcement officers in most cases. So the guy in the patrol car shouting instructions over his loudspeaker was just a civilian trained to operate a computer? Only if when you call the cops you talk directly with an officer in a car and not a dispatcher. Not relevant to the conversation, but... There was a police cruiser pulled up alongside the Prius, with the occupant of the police cruiser shouting instructions to the Prius over his loudspeaker. I believe the occupant of the police cruiser was a police officer, not a dispatcher. ya..I got that part...the OP's point was that when you call in..you're talking to a dispatcher, not an officer...:h

RE: handling a fifth wheel

Everything happens slower so backing takes a little getting used to, but after a few times you should have it down.

RE: Interest rates are horrible

I went to see about purchasing a new 5er this past weekend and the current interest rates are horrible. the best the dealer was able to do was 7.5%. My current loan is 6.75. You would think that since everyone is wanting the economy to recover and people to buy stuff, then you would get a good loan rate. I even called around today and nobody was any better. Heck, I just bought a used (2009 GM rep drove) truck and got it for 4.75%. Banks got us in the financial mess to begin with, looks like they haven't totally learned from their mistakes. Just wanted to vent. I checked with our CU here...3.75 on an RV loan to 10 years.

RE: How fast do you drive?

If the speed limit is 55 or over I usually go 62. My fuel mileage starts to drop off dramatically after that. +1 55-62

RE: washing the new 5th wheel

Try this..... Use a leaf blower to blow away the water droplets once you wash your 5th wheel. That is what we use of fire trucks as we have hard water. While a dry cloth can scratch the paint, the leaf blower works quite well. Duh! I use my backpack blower to dry my motorcycles...never even thought about the camper. thanks!

RE: washing the new 5th wheel

Mr. Clean Auto-Dry Car wash kit! Atach to the water hose. Spray on the soap, use a long handle brush to scrub it, then spray on the wax...and then rinse with the water softener built into the Auto-Dry. Let it air dry. No streaks, no spots. Around $30.00 and refill cartridges are readily available. They are giving these things away at all the dollar stores around here. $5 for the big kit with everything and extra filters. I got tired of putzing around with that big attachment thingy on the hose...too much of a PITA.

RE: washing the new 5th wheel

Are you sure the water spots aren't caused by your water? That's usually a sign of hard water minerals being left behind after the water dries.

RE: Heartland advice

You need to read a little deeper.... Believe me I've poured over the Heartland Owners forum and yes there is negative stuff on there. There's negative stuff on every manufacturer's forum I have visited, at least those that allow negative posts. Overall there's a bunch of really happy folks over there! Okey Dokey! Best wishes! I wouldn't be too cocky with a Cougar http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/19656762/srt/pa/pging/1/page/1 Okey Dokey! Best wishes!

RE: Internet Sales??

You can buy from nearly any dealer via the internet. Think of the internet as a big phone book with better organization and search capability. When I decided on a brand and model I just started emailing any dealer within 1000 miles of us asking for best cash price. I got many responses..some good, some not so good. Either way, we saved $4500 on the first unit and $3000 on this new 2010 over anyone locally.

RE: Heartland advice

I have a friend who has a Bighorn (about 3 or 4 years old). He had a lot of problems the first couple of years (which were Heartland's early years). Heartland did stand behind the unit and resolved most of his problems. Recently, I asked him if he would buy another Bighorn. He said no way. He said he had too many problems and too many ruined trips. He said Heartland's customer service was good, but he would not own another. He has ownwd fifth wheels since the 80's and said he had never had a trailer with so many problems. From what I have read on the Heartland Owners forum, this is a pretty rare response. We have an Elkridge fifth-wheel on order. Should come be here in a couple of weeks. I really liked the fit and finish of this fifth-wheel. Can't wait to get it. You need to read a little deeper....

RE: New Cougar High Country

Marketing hokum....they're using lightweight build materials/techniques to reduce the overall weight. Beware...super lightweight units are typically not as durable (floors for example) as their heavier counterparts. When you reduce weight, something has to be compromised. Durability or price will suffer. Thats not totally true. Lighter and stronger can be had at the same time but at a much higher price. Uhhhh..ya...that's exactly what I said...:S
