Can you hold out for the 2011s ?
Many huge changes under the skin of the 2011 Chevy/GMC trucks to make them even better tow rigs.
The 2011 Duramax is supposed to get better fuel economy than even the 2009s/2010s due to changes made to the engine's emission control devices.

Found this- it is 1400 ft/bl- but AFTER the torque converter so mulitply by 1.9
The 1100 lb-ft is correct, but that's AFTER the torque converter multiplies engine torque by 1.9:1. That means it can take about 580 lb-ft of engine torque.
If I am not mistaken, the poster in this ford-trucks.com thread is also a member on RV.net as well, and is an actual Ford transmission engineer.
Anyhow, 580 sounds a little more realistic. Typically the engineers will design the transmission to handle the engine's output torque plus a little cushion so that the tranny will last for what is considered a normal service life.
Thanks for the link hone eagle, I wasn't able to come up with anything when I Googled for about 10min earlier. :(
I would still like to see an actual link to Ford data.

Anyhow, now that we have 4 years of case history, maybe we can have a civilized discussion, and not mere speculation. Because if 2007 really had called, all they would have to talk about is "what if".

Don't worry, that sudden acceleration issue will eventually resolve it'self.....
I know that by the time the 2004 F-450 PSD that I drove had about 10,000mi on it, not only would it not accelerate, it wouldn't move at all.

A little discussion about the DPF........

I have been giving some thought to a possible issue with DPF equipped trucks.......
Having read, and reread the owner's manual for my company truck, I have not been able to find anything difinitve on this but....
Usually when there is a winter storm moving in for the first time every fall, the local news town crier will give "advice" on what to do to survive that first storm. With the usual bread, and milk, blankets, etc., their advice includes to fill your gas tank incase you are stranded in a snow bank, and need the engine for heat until help arrives.
Also, in a related weather/traffic situation, sitting in gridlock in rush hour traffic during the summer months could prolong idle requirements.
So this gets me to thinking.......
Having been informed by a message by my company truck's DIC to "DRIVE TO CLEAN EXHAUST FILTER", I have to wonder what comes next if you are in a situation where the truck cannot be driven, but the engine needs to be left running, and it is calling for a regen.
Will the engine eventually shut down?
What if you need A/C, or heat?
What if you need a PTO to power an accessory for hours on end?
Ambulances, and fire trucks idle for long periods of time, and so forth.
I would hate to think that I was in a utility company bucket truck up against a utility pole, and the engine shut down. 15' is a big first step. ;)

Have you seen Consumers Report's latest magazine that just came out rating the quality of "ALL" car manufacturers. Honda is ranked number one and Toyota number three. They ranked GM "dead last and Ford 3rd from last".
That is funny because on FoxNews just yesterday there was a guy from CR with their pick as top family SUV is the Chevrolet Traverse.

I don't know about the Allisons, but on a Ford slushbox, the last set of numbers is a torque indicator. The 5R110 could take 1100 ft-lbs, while the new 6R140 will handle 1400 ft-lbs.

Care to provide a link to this? I know that ford is known for overrating their drivetrain components, but there is NO WAY that 6R140 will handle 1400 ft/lbs of torque in it's factory configuration.
Since the 6R140 will be the transmission of choice for both engines, a 1400 ft/lb rating would require that it be built so stout that it would cost the gas engine at least 2 MPGs alone.
Again show me a link to actual engineering data, and then I start to believe.

How well do you think an aluminum block engine 6.2 Chevy would hold up as a tow vehicle especially in the heat for a 25 foot Keystone Laredo fifth wheeler.

Actually, since aluminum conducts/transfers heat faster than cast iron, it should excel in the hotter climates.
The lower end of your engine, specifically the areas that are fed oil will last longer because the heat will be pulled away from these areas faster.
With the bearings set in an aluminum engine case/block the aluminum will pull the heat out of the bearings at a faster rate. Cooler running rod, main, and cam bearings will benefit from the fact that the oil isn't having to pull as much heat from these engine components. Cooler oil also adds to lower engine part wear rates. Cooler oil won't be as subject to heat related viscosity breakdown.
One reason all new GM engines have an aluminum oil pan, even on engines with cast iron blocks, is to draw the heat out faster. The second reason for the aluminum oil pans is that they dampen some of the internal engine noise that would radiate right through a metal stamped oil pan. The third benefit is better gasket sealing.

We butcher our own hogs. We buy them on the hoof, and then work them up ourselves. By doing this I get all custom cuts the way that I want them. In the end with all the extras added in I end up with about $1.00/lb for my pork in the freezer.
Our beef we have custom butchered. We have a cow delivered to our local meat plant, either one of somebodys that we buy, or one of our own......Depending on the current market.
I just tell the meat plant (which is where my oldest son works, BTW) to cut out as many steaks as what they can get, and leave the trimmins to use to make the hamburger. Don't really know what I pay total for my beef, but it is much more than the $1.00/lb that I have in my pork.
I LOVE t-bone steaks, and my own 2" cut bone in pork chops are awesome.
It takes me about 5 mins. to grill the t-bone steaks, and about 5 hours to grill the pork chops. :)

My wife's family goes up there every year. I tell them to go with my blessing.
Opening day of trout season is HUGE in Missouri. This year Gov. Nixon (Jeremiah, not Richard Milhous :B) fired the starting shot to open the season at Montauk.

I agree with the other posters that say if you are shelling out a bundle of cash you owe it to yourself to at least look at the Dodge, and Chevy/GMC.
I think you will find a lot to like in these other brands as well.
Also, waiting until this summer will allow you to look at the 2011 SilveradoHD/SierraHD. These trucks are supposed to get more HP/TQ with better fuel mileage numbers to boot. The towing/hauling ratings numbers are already out and these are much improved over the 2010 models.

I don't know how far you are willing to drive, but there is a dealership in Memphis, TN that has a few 2007 Classic GMC 2500HDs with the 6.0L/auto. Almost all were EC/LB.
