RE: Why the low F450 GVWR?

Looks like its back to getting a chassis with a custom bed if you need something bigger than a 1 ton. Kind of an odd move by Ford IMHO. The Dana 110 and the 19.5's are what made that truck what it is. All your going to get now is a rebadged F350.

I'll see as low as 12 and as high as 15 depending on hills and headwinds, but I usually average 13-13.5 if I keep the speed at 60. 70 MPH will drop it to 12. Thats with a 4500 pound camper. Im also usually pulling a small boat or an ATV, but it dosent seem to effect mileage much weather Im pulling it or not.

If your talking the HD 3/4 and 1 ton series, I believe the grilles were the same from 05 through 07.

Sure looks to me like a bowfishing set up. Notice the large halogen spotlights under the platform. Guys use them here in Minnesota to bow-fish for Carp. At night the fish tend to move to shallow water. Standing up on that front platform with the lights shining into the water makes them much easier to spot and gives you a good angle to get off a shot. Never seen one with a fan motor on it though, my guess is it would be used in very shallow or weed choked water where the outboard would not work.

As others have suggested, start by playing around with the airbag pressures. I know with my Dodge, airbag pressures above 70 psi actually make the handling worse. Id also recommend the bump stop extensions for your overload springs. They're fairly cheap and easy to install. A rear sway bar is also a good suggestion. I carry a 4600 pound camper on my 04 Dodge dually. With 2.5" bump stop extensions for the overloads and 60 psi in the airbags its a VERY stable ride. And FWIW, Im only over the 12000 pound GVWR by a few hundred pounds, and Im WAY under the massive 9350 pound rear axle rating. You dont need another truck. Play with the airbag pressures and add a sway bar or some bump stop extensions and I bet you'll be just fine.

I couldnt agree more, Wrangler. With sticker prices pushing well north of $40K on the nicer models, These campers shouldnt be sagging, rotting, and delaminating after a few short years like many are now doing. Its one thing to see a 10 year old neglected camper fall apart, but when you see a 5 year old well maintained camper with a sagging slideout and rotted skirts, its a shame. Better materials and MUCH better sealing Tecniques are badly needed.

RE: generator ?

Another option if your still considering a portable generator is to get a high efficient A/C unit. Ours only draws 10 amps IIRC. A single 2000 Honda runs it with power to spare. Its a lot cheaper than buying 2 generators and a parallel kit. Also much easier than lugging 2 gensets around.
