RE: After Market Brakes on a 2000 Ford F-350

He has a 7.3 so after repairing that side with OEM he needs to add one of these electronic exhaust brake.. Works really well and my 99 with 130K is still on orginal brakes and I pull some very heavy trailers. I've come down Mount Eagle east bound and hardly have to use any brakes at 26,000lbs. A manual tranny helps this a lot.

RE: Finished my Gen turki

Not sure why PVC is the pipe of choice for these homemade units ,,, maybe because it's round. I made one for $11 out of 10 feet of 2" X 4" alum gutter downspout plus a 90degree alum elbow. I cut the 10' into tow five foot sections for storage and added a flat steel strap to the elbow so I could clamp it to the exhaust pipe with a air gap of 2". Going more than 2" did not decrease the temp of the pipe very much. The elbow is the one that ends up being 2" high and 4" wide when clamped to the exhaust pipe. Doubt it weighs three pounds and sorry as I do not have a picture.

RE: Diesel Engine Dash Airconditioner

B..bill, not doubting you but when I had to replaced the high pressure hose connector at the compressor it only took four regular cans to recharge my system on a 42' MH. Fortunately I was able to cut off the broken fitting and crimp a new one on in place using the old hose which had enough slack in it. System was open for several hours, but I did not pump it down. That was two years ago and have not worked on it since. One thing I have done is to bypass the thermosat so the compressor runs all the time when I selecct AC. A couple times I've had to shut the compressor off for a hour as the evaporator froze up and there was very little air flow. Running this way I rarely have to run the generator and the 120V AC. I tried shortening how much of the cap tube was in the evaporator, but it still wanted to cycle off way too much.

RE: Diesel Engine Dash Airconditioner

If this is a recent problem and it takes three cans you have a serious leak and we are getting out of the DIY arena. After putting in two cans (still not working) you could put in a can of dyed freon to help find the leak but at some point you need to put in more oil too and then ,,,, and then ,,,,, ??? OK, $30 as it's been a while since I bought one.

RE: Diesel Engine Dash Airconditioner

I'd start by making sure the clutch is engaged on the compressor (the middle part of the pully is turning). Next I'd check that the electric valve in the dash is shutting off the hot water from the engine. I'd do this when the engine is cold and see if you still only get 63 degree air out the vents before there's hot water up front. Still no cold air, then I'd go to your local auto parts store and buy a 134 freon recharge kit with a gauge on it. Cost about $24 and has directions on how to use. Do not puncture the can until you know you need more freon which the gauge will tell you. This is not rocket science and just about anyone can do it but this is one situation where more is not better as you may not need a whole can to get to the correct pressure. I use my IR temp gun to check how far down on the condensor the tubes are getting hot with 80-90% of them (from the top) being hotter than the bottome ones.

RE: Flat screen TV wall mounts and HDMI cables Cheap!

Dang it, I thought I got a good price at $24 delivered on Ebay but then it is 30' long.

RE: Please be my travel agent!

It's 1000 miles from Madison to Billings MT or 1450 to West Glacier, MT It seems like wverything out West is 500 miles apart. West Glacier, MT to Jackson Hole, WY 500. Jackson Hole to Estes Park, CO. 500 or Moab, UT 483 Moab to Estes Park, CO 450. Estes Park to Madison 985. Two weeks is not a lot of time and as others have said, do a smaller portion of the West. You do realize it can be cold in MT in mid Sept, but you will not need reservations.

RE: Beware of certain dealer

I think I have the timeline: The OP buys a new Sunnybrook 5er from the nearest dearler 150 miles away. I'm guessing in July. In Aug he takes it back to this dealer on the advice of Sunnybrook for warranty repairs. This is before the end of the camping season in KY. They do a walk through and I'll assume they agree on the items needing repair and he leaves them two copies of the items. "The repairs were simple items like seals for the slides, squeaks, and so on." Not sure slide seals are simple items. He calls them on a regular basis, but who he needs is never in and they never return his calls. At some point he drives the 300 miles (150X2) only to find that items he's been told are fixed, are not. Yes, he's a little more laid back than many on here, but we in the south tend to be that way, up to a point. About the only reason to buy a new rig is for the warranty. He has items he wants fixed so he calls Sunnybrook and they tell him to take it to his dealer. Maybe in hind site he should have gotten it and taken it else where, but why buy new and what good is a warranty if you cannot get the work done and have to pay for the repairs yourself? Some on here assume he has to pay for storage but he's in KY and the neighbors enjoy watching him try and park it at his home. Not sure what storage has to do with this anyway as usually you have to pay by the year. I'll give him some slack as he has not named the dealer and has answered the questions that have been asked of him. Maybe it's cabin fever driving some of the posts on here.

RE: GFI breaker

I had one like that which would trip almost every day for no good reason. Swapped it out with another in the panel and same problem. Replaced it with a regular breaker and I know that was not real smart but I survived for 40 years without any GFIs and I'm willing to take my chances. I can hear the flames comming. As for your second question, what is the down side of unplugging? My inverter will power everything I need for many hours.

RE: ISL vs ISM ?

Having run/caravaned with others with the ISM vs my ISL I was not that impressed with the difference but we were in eastern Canada. I'm on the heavy side at 45K and I'm very happy with the power 99.8% of the time. Once I get above 10,000' I cannot get 100% power and end up in third at 35MPH. A ISM would probably still be going 45 and both engines will get 7 mpg at 65+. A lot of the extra HP of the ISM is used up in extra weight of the engine/ bigger tranny/ bigger cooling/ ect. Your 40' Thor probably gets 8 mpg so not that big a differencee. While not FT like you, we do spend three months in our 42' four slide Dynasty which works well for us with two bathroom sinks. I will NEVER go back to a DP without a tag axle and I admit to being biased/partial to Monaco's 10 air bag suspension.Diamond IV floorplan

AGM Batteries in Vermont

Two things: Two weeks ago someone post a company (three initials) which had good prices on AGM. Anyone have that link? In trying to find that post I found this deal. Having bought four 110ah AGM's (made in Canada) from this company two years ago I was surprised to find the same price on them today. At $550 for four picked up in VT that is a heck of a deal. Shipping of $150 runs the price up to $175 each delivered. I have nothing in this other than they have worked well for me and I was in the area so picking up saved me some $s.

RE: Polishing Aluminum Wheels

It's in the NW corner of the junction of I-75 and 44. 44 is the first exit north of where the turnpike and I-75 come together so anyone going home other than those up I-95 will go by it. There's a truck wash at Ft Pierce for those using I-95 and I would assume they polish them too.

RE: Something strange happened in the RGV today

A honest post from a person in the RGV deserves a honest post from SE Florida. Looks like I'll be able to wear shorts, T shirt, and flip flops for the next week which will be more days than in the previous two months. Jan and Feb this year in WPB was the second coldest on record. Got to love all this Global Warming.

RE: How to remove frig.?????

Steve, you might want to read my post on vibrating the coils instead of using a hammer when the freezer works, but the refer does not. If nothing works, then hammering or vibrating is not going to help. I was able to vibrate mine by just moving it out about 4". Four months later it's still working.

RE: Looking at 3 different motorhomes

Go with the diesel with the Cummins ISB, a great little engine and the 6spd Allison tranny is iron clad. You will end up with a diesel so do it in one step. Welcome to the forums and our free advice is worth more than you paid for it but 3x zero is still zero.

RE: Maxxair Vent Cover too short?

I installed two of the regular Maxxair Vent Covers and yes they get hit, but no big deal as the Fantastic fans still works well. Once the motor stalls when opening or closing the current stops to that motor (not sure how it does, but it does) so hitting before fully open is not a problem. I used Silcone Seal four years ago to glue mine on and they are still up there.

RE: Why Some Areas Have Banned Boondocking

I've paid good money for worse than that at several RV rallies. Thanks Mikhen for the site. I kind of like this one in a "get her dun" kind of way. Wish me luck when I fix my DW's bike fender that way. Better take a picture before the eyes swell up when she hits me.

RE: Black Canyon of the Gunnison

I've found this site helpful for CG's in that area. Black Caynon is more barren than what I like. From this site you can click on Back to Campground map (in red)and one of my favorite is #18 (Lakeview) at Taylor Park. More humming bird than I have ever seen any where.

RE: Finding Diesel - Big Spring, TX to Carlsbad, NM

I now only use this part of Map Quest to find diesel or gas plus it gives you the price and a map.
