RE: Where are we?

Good call, you get around. Cedar Mesa, a place I will never take my trailer.

Dwight, much over 12 feet high might be an issue, you would not want to scratch that pretty paint job.

RE: grand teton np

Agreed, we also stayed at Colter bay Campground, not the RV park.
You pick the site, just don't pick one in the bottom gully, during a rainstorm you become a lake.
Ours was private, though cars drive within feet of you.
Gros Ventre was much more private and quiet.

RE: grand teton np

YOU likely are too big for lizard creek and signal mountain.
Gros Ventre is dry with great views of the Tetons, just north of Jackson Hole, I think we were in the C or D loop. W and dump at the entrance. Lots of bison and elk nearby.

I have another option, if you are adventurous and don't mind being on your own with no contact with the outside world, except for a 3 other campers. A couple of miles down a forest road. First come, first served.
Nothing but you and the wilderness.

RE: Where are we?

This should be a good head scratcher. Just identifying what it is will be tough. The where is a little off the beaten path.

Here's my SWAG (Scientific wild a$$ guess)as to what it is.:h
Looks to me, like this may be a boat dry-dock. Rides on the rails down a steep slope into the water, a boat is floated over it, the four large straps lift and cradle the boat, and then the whole kit and caboodle is wenched out of the water. :B Jack
Dang! You are pretty close. Very good for somebody so far from the ocean or a large body of water. It is a marine railway...of sorts. It is not in a boatyard. It is not used for servicing boats.
I'll let it sit awhile longer. Somebody might come up with the what & where.

RE: Magnitude 8.8 Earthquake off the coast of Chile

Wow, that is unusual. New Madrid I expect a really big one like SFO 1906, but not Oklahoma.
But, it turns out, 1918, 1929, 1952 (5.5), and 1959/62 were all around El Reno OK. I learned something today, and so did everyone in Central OK, a 4.4 will get your attention and knock stuff off the shelf at the epicenter.
A 4.4 is exciting, a 5.5 can be bad on soft soils.

Hi-res pictures and blogs of those in the area.
Looks like everyone is pitching in to help each other.
Some of these remind me of what I drove through in 1989 Oakland Ca.

This might be too easy for those who have been there, so no hints right away:

The fist pic is a poor flyspeck pic of a campground. The 2nd pic is of the road that goes to the campground.

It's almost lost in the clouds, but that's Denali.
And, the road they wanted to pave and straighten. Much better the way it is, and hope to visit someday.

You must at least guess the road, or the immediate general area.
Extra points for which camp, and what body of water that is.

RE: Have any of you burned out on RVing?

Sounds like she never liked camping, you do.
Buy a Honda 2000 generator so that she has 110V and you might go out to boondock more often.
Or, go to more remote campgrounds that do have W/E at least.
No, you are not alone, there are many out there, my storage yard is full of boats and RV's that go out once a year, or never.

RE: Westen US National Parks

Too hot in summer for most of what you are doing. Do southern Utah and AZ on Spring Break next year. The snow will be pretty.
Go north, do all that in summer. You can do Zion NP along the way, it will be hot, but it is not far off of I-15
Spend time in Gros Ventre (lots of Buffalo) and visit Jackson Hole (mountain slide for the kids), window shopping for Mom.
Colter Bay campground next, lots of elk and vista's. Even a kid can appreciate the beauty of Jenny lake.
Yellowstone, wildlife, wolves, bears oh my! And lots of bubbling pools they will love.

RE: Elevation map

Cannot be done, stick to the flat lands of the gulf coast. Or, take a cruise as suggested. Even then, once Washington you are stuck at the coast, but can see the mountains.
