RE: Can't justify the expense of a new camper!

I can justify it somewhat...consider the cost of a medium to upper end resort for just two days, the food and drink tab. The bed and bathroom a million other people have shared. Hanging out with people you might not want to be around. Along with the fact that you can write the "TC" off as a second home. One weekend would make your TC payment easily. YES you would buy and make your own food and drink, make your own bed, the cost of fuels and insurance would be spent getting there anyway, but if you use yours as much as I do(year round, never winterize mine), actually going camping, taking it to parties so I don't have to drive, I even use mine at work from time to time. Well worth it to me...infact once you start getting used to having it and really using it, you can't stop finding reasons not to. I also consider it as its own insurance policy against a disaster moment. I could be up and gone in a matter of 30 minutes...just food for thought!

RE: SHAKEDOWN TRIP-NC- Guidance WELCOMED !

I know this is an old post, but just for the super, uber newbie who might read this who has a brand new rig, I always suggest, a weekend in the driveway...seriously! Make your maiden voyage one that you had some practice at it. Knowing how it all works, where everything is and if you have any problems, your right there at home to get it corrected. Just the art of learning to level a rig, "ANY RV" correctly should be something to practice a time or two. Even the level of communication between you and the wife should you need to back up in a tricky spot should be discussed. You may even want to carry some radios like me and my wife do. There are so many ways to make the trips ahead more enjoyable and this big family over here is a good place to start....happy trails!

RE: Where do you camp?

Forest service roads, logging roads, anywhere off the beaten path. Rest areas and truck stops as a last resort.

RE: Wow take a look a this one.

Just saying that this is a one of a kind... over the top self made and looked damn good to...we should be jealous but not knocking his work in any way. Sure anything can be better but for a first...What do you want?

RE: Wow take a look a this one.

Please read his artical!...I'm impressed with the comments here. I feel we can support this. Get the info before you diss this guy though ..he knows what he is doing. If anyone can build this kind of rig in his spare time and give you even a peek at it, and you want to try it yourself.... MOST.. should be afraid... let's see what you can do in your spare time...come on be real!!

Do you leave at least one LPG tank on at all times?

Another questionable reason to do or not to do, so but my thinking is to keep one on so I can have it ready to go, pressure in the line...light it up!..but some disagree. Travailing with an open tank..yes I get this but I personally disagree that leaving a RV without pressure to the LPG lines is not a good practice either. What are your thoughts.....

RE: Utility Trailer w/TC: To do or not? How, which, & what size?

An extended tongue is a must IMHO! I have one now! I had one without it and punched holes in the front with the jacks twice. A v nose would work but I opted for more space up front. Stab jacks at the rear are a must also if you plan on unhooking the trailer. Check close the pics DJ gave us with the snow mobile trailer. You will see them in the left rear. It boils down to how much do you want to spend. I personally would have one custom made so you'll get what you want. Most builders offer options that you might not even think of. If you go tandom you'll also have to install a good brake controller. AS most know, some trucks are already pre wired for it. My Dodge was. Good luck!

RE: TC slide out awnings

I wouldn't have a slide without one now...you nailed it the first time. Who says they wouldn't? Someone who has never been on the roof to see what collects on the top of a slide out? Get real... it should be standard equipment whether you like it or not...IMHO!

RE: Onan 2500 Guru's I need your help!

Well a chime here....first how old is it and what is the model number? It will be right on the front placard. There are many reasons these things die under load and you will have to work at it. In my opinion, depending on how long it has been run, start with a fresh tune up. Plug, air filter (DO Not trust what it looks like)it could look clean but be dirty, and oil change. Then a question is how old is you propane (LPG)? Moister can accumulate in lines! Yes it could be a regulator also. Do you have a breather tube?..This is why I ask what model it is..if you do it will be on the underside of the unit along the front edge held in place by two clips. If it is there and there is no filter screen on the end of it, it could be clogged with insects larvae. You should use a flashlight and look in the end. If it's clogged you need to clear it out. Some have internal regulators and if the tube is clogged it can't regulate the fuel demand. Make sure the plastic cover for the air filter has a tight fit...if it is installed wrong it will not run right either. This is just a start but let us know what unit you have and we will go from there...goood luck!

RE: LPG..Does it dissipate upward or lay low?Know your gases?

Well,I'm not one to dig on my builder but some things just don't make sense. I understand that mistakes are made...just want to give my opinion as to where it happens. Some of these weaknesses lead to fixes we have to do ourself. I just wish I could build one myself!!

RE: LPG..Does it dissipate upward or lay low?Know your gases?

When some AF'er gets it let me know...go out and look at your rig....do you see it??? WHY? Think about it and you tell me what they are thinking!

RE: LPG..Does it dissipate upward or lay low?Know your gases?

I know nwjet ...one find leads to another but this one is strictly for the mismatch of the door itself...many of which we all own. I am trying to show how the thought of this could not be a very well thought out issue. I am asking to why isn't the louvers on the bottom of the door because LPG is a heavy gas?????????????? With a better seal at the door, than having them to cut out both top and bottom? DID they do the same on yours? Just to get the bottles to fit???

RE: LPG..Does it dissipate upward or lay low?Know your gases?

This install is just luck IMHO! Not very well thought out. Hey....all things have issues, just showing you all! A very weak spot! IT isn't even insulated to the inside either, another mod I have to do myself...embarising!

RE: LPG..Does it dissipate upward or lay low?Know your gases?

This is the only reason I can find that why the seals were cut both top and bottom was to get the tanks in and out of the space...lucky choice but cutting the bottom seal allows water to get in to the space...not so good AF! LOOK close at the pic! http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q44/kkeller14k/IMG_1575.jpg height=300 width=400 http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q44/kkeller14k/IMG_1573.jpg height=300 width=400

Is any one getting this? I know it took me awhile but WTF??? I have something more, but a leak in this compartment could be like a really big firecracker!! RIGHT??

Ok everyone take a close look at this... http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q44/kkeller14k/IMG_1572.jpg height=300 width=400 Why would the louvers be at the top of the door???MMMM??

LPG..Does it dissipate upward or lay low?Know your gases?

A silly question (BUT NOT!), has come up but I'm sure you'll all answer this fast. Just testing knowledge of us all and maybe for those who didn't know, you will now! As a side note, how about carbon monoxide?. When was the last time you tested your alarms? Do you know where they are? This should give you a "BIG" clue. Where I'm going with this is some thing that I so noticed today about my TC and it's LPG compartment that is actually not pretty well thought out, scary actually. Only one small thing was done right but again done so wrong that I can't believe it. I think this install was done only by accident. I will repost the outcome with pics later and what I found in a day or two after you all ask yourself these questions. You won't believe it!
