RE: Caller ID display on TV, w/DISH & radio to phone connection

Yes, that is what we need. Brenda has BAD arthritis and doesn't need to get up for "toll free"....I personally ignore the phone.
IF, I wished to talk to someone I phone them. :)

RE: Caller ID display on TV, w/DISH & radio to phone connection

I guess as a test, I could run a hard-wire phone cord from the jack to the TV....temporary....to test..... but for a permanent fix it would take drywall destruction and attic climbing and fishing....cannot do that :) am70

Caller ID display on TV, w/DISH & radio to phone connection

Good a.m., DISH does not understand or has no info, BUT I am having trouble with the caller-ID on our main family room TV.....
Could it be because the phone connection is not with a hard-wired jack? I use a radio thingamajib to connect the dual DVR to the phone (saves $5 a month with DISH) BUT caller ID does not work.
In the garage I have "my TV" and another dual DVR and the caller-ID does work. It is hard-wired to the phone jack.

RE: Praise of tabbys

This "love affair" is getting more involved :) I am now lying for my tabby cat......
I opened the breakfast room window and my wife had a poinsettia (sp?) there sunning AND The Cat decided to enjoy the air....led to trouble
Poinsettia on the floor, cat in trouble, but it was my fault. I opened the window. We get enough air I think; I will not open that window again. :)
Do you ever take responsibility for your tabby's actions?

RE: 40 gallon gas water heater?

Thank you fellows, I suspect that the builder put in the cheapest and being 10 years old now we have some problems... I have tried to get rid of sediment. I put the garden hose on it and drained the tank onto the drive way.
Maybe I should look for a "deal". Best I can do for a 50 gallon gas here, installed, is $745. Does that sound reasonable?

40 gallon gas water heater?

Hi, Our 40 gallon water heater seems to contain about 10-15 gallons of HOT water....just a guess.
How much hot water should be available from a 40 gallon water heater before it goes into "recovery"?
Some background: We recently got a walk-in bath installed in the master-bath....it is about 65-75 feet from the hot water heater and really drains the supply of hot water.
I/we do not wish to switch to electric; stole the circuit for a garage heat pump :) its my fam room :)
And then, will a 50 gallon new hot water heater (gas) really improve life here? Our gas water heater is an A.O. Smith put in by Richmond American (we live in a tract/allotment)

Music: Chris Isaak, Gene Autry, & Mike Curb Congregation

Ummmm, what can I say my musical preferences are varied :) I am 70 years old and really do not like "modern" music. Chris Isaak and his 'Wicked Games', Gene Autry's 'Deep in the Heart of Texas', and the Mike Curb Congregation's 'Burning Bridges' are some of my favorites.....
Can you give me a name for my tastes? :)

RE: Walk-in bath/spa tubs?

Wife likes it. The tub itself seems like a good product; airjets instead of water jets seems smart. There is less chance of mold in the lines, I guess.
One interesting sidelight--our gas 40 gal. water heater is 70 feet from the tub so after one bath there is a waiting period for the hot water heater to recover.
We were concerned that the television would be affected by the electric motor running the airjets; there has been no problem :) I hope the GFI works when the TV falls in the tub :)

RE: Walk-in bath/spa tubs?

OK, the walk-in-tub has been installed. Seabridge brand name
Plumbing and electrical went without problems, I guess. BUT the finish is another problem. The installers (plumber & electrician) hope they had proper credentials...left us with a mess.
After the old garden tub was removed there were gaps on the left and the right sides. The installers did not drywall the area left gaping.
They mudded it. You gets a lot of shrinkage with that. Brenda fixed it. Now this is no easy fix; Brenda and I are both 70 years-of-age. We bought some wire type backing and she re-plasered (its not called plaster) the wall, smoothed, and undercoated and painted.
OK meets with our specs now. Called San Diego and a Mr. Brandon Alexander said he would refund $200 for her (Brenda's) efforts. No check yet. Called the Canada Mfg. Seabridge...and waiting on a return call.
I do not understand how a company can, with a good product, "fall down" on an installation.
Makes me wonder what the guarantee is worth....will we be able to obtain parts?
Were we stupid...only out $13,000 :)

RE: DISH satellite receiver ?s

Yesterday DISH technicians installed a second dual-dvr receiver (for our 4 tvs) and DISH is sending a box and I am to return the 510.
I called DISH this a.m. and I can buy a receiver any where I please and they with "activate" it for me for $10 a month during the 6 months we are away from here in our trailer.....no charge to activate or de-activate.
In May, I guess I will contact them and activate. As I wrote in an earlier post, I was in the habit of taking the 510 out of the garage and putting it in the trailer. But, these dual-dvrs are too complicated for me to do that :)

DISH satellite receiver ?s

We are switching to two dual DVR receivers; need to run 4 TVs here at home. Whereas I am not savvy enough to take one of these with us to our summer get-away, I think I need a single receiver.
Are single receivers available from places other than DISH? Will a receiver work in the spot beam for locals and everything? OR do they have to have a card?
Must I get an extra receiver from DISH? Other summers I have taken the single DVR from the garage; it is/was easy to unplug and it worked with our portable RV dish.

RE: RV Net members in AZ?

Being 70 each here, it is difficult to schedule anything :) My wife had a very painful surgery and that causes MANY problems...the cat, dog, and I are in pain also :)
Please do not take it personally; others probably like the idea BUT reality comes to all.
Take care,

RE: Praise of tabbys

WandaLust, Max looks much like Phaedra :)
And I suspect that I/we have changed as we have gotten older; for one thing we are home most of the time and do spend time with our pets. I do not know what the dog (Misty, Maltese) or the cat (Max, tabby) would do if we left them for over a couple of hours.
Yesterday, went to PetsMart to look for what we thought would redirect (should I say thought refocus) Max from eating all paper....like the grocery list, notes in general, his eating all paper on the bar. Did not work; glad we didn't spend but $4.95 as opposed to $34.95. He ignored the new toy.
But, he is a cute "little whippersnapper".
I was a dog person. Misty the Maltese belongs to my wife (except for the fact that I am the "alpah male") and the cat belongs to me....but he is attentive to Brenda :)
My St. Bernard was my best friend before I got married and then he was protective of Brenda; seemed to think he had also gotten married :)
Many years ago.

Sharker....you are above me....I do not know how to create a file on my desktop.
These "extras" are apparently everything Brenda and I ever went to on google.
I believe this to be a recent problem.

Sending pictures....and recipients get more :)

Now I have a new problem; luckily, we send pictures to ourselves before others.....
Pics I take (whole file of individual) from "my pictures" seem to include everything (and I do mean everything from every site either of us have visited) in the forwarding to others.
I have tried deleting everything and then forwarding it once again and there is some old and some new... like Arianna Huffington and Brenda's search for bra's...
Do I need the guru? I think we done been compromised here.

RE: Highad Park off the Pasadena Freeway Avenue 60

I believe the Arroyo Seco or the Pasadena Freeway was one of LAs first freeways, if not the first. It did/still does have narrow lanes and impossibly short entrance and some short exits.
There was a nice little park off the freeway at Avenue 60. The neighborhood was working class. Nowdays it is referred to by some gang members and The Highlands and it is not so nice....but, I believe, is being what is called gentrified. Fixed up by incoming young professionals.
Pasadena was nice and South Pasadena very pleasant. We moved "up" from Highland Park to Alhambra :) that was not so far up :) We lived down the street from the Basque Castle....that place lately came to fame in that is/was owned in later years by some musician.
Aaah, yes, Los Angeles; I do miss the place.
