Nothing to say about the OP but something like this happened to me about 15 yrs ago. I bought a new car from a GM dealer that had a good name in the area. It was financed through a local bank at a good rate. Three months later I had not gotten my paperwork or plates for the car. The dealer told me not to worry but it was the DMV being behind. About a week after that communication, I was contacted by the bank and told my loan had been cancelled on the vehicle. The resaon was the dealer was using their money and not telling his the financing dept with GMAC that the auto had been sold so he could not produce a title to my bank. It was later learned that he was way over his head in debt. GMAC made good on the title and went after the dealer for the money from my bank and my bank continued with the original loan agreement.
Next, a very large local RV dealer went to prison for many years because he was not giving his bank the money he owed them after selling several mega buck motorhomes. A lot of people were hurt in his shady dealing. The bank I do business with lost a couple hundred grand on the guy. It was not the banks,the buyers or problems that were being told. It was the shady practices of the local dealer that helped him maintain a life of luxury. The dealership went bankrupt, the dealer (a guy I went to school with) went to jail and all should have ended there. However the brother of the dealer renamed the dealership, began selling nice RVs again and it is now business as usual, just with a different lender.

If you cancel a policy, most insurance companies charge a short rate which results in an added cost.
Just let the insurance expire at the designated date and renew effective with another company that would begin when your current policy expires. Be sure to tell the old company not to renew the policy. There would not be a renewal fee or a short rate for cancelling early.

RE: Nascar races
I have gone to TX Speedway 3 times and Talladega Speedway 15 times. In fact I have four tickets that is kept in the TriOval Towers for years. Lately I have not been able to go but the seats are there if I do.
Camping is the only way to be there. I have over 600 photos made of the off track events there, if you know what I mean and a couple hundred of the races. Hopefully I will still be alive next year to make at least both of the Talladega races.
The main problem issue I have experienced at Talladega is I owned a DP with a propane generator. The propane lasted just over one day and buying it delivered got expensive really fast. To cure the problem, I did the same as I did with travel trailers. Just carry a 8500 watt portable genset. It runs 14 hrs on 5 gallons of gas and I would carry 2 extra cans of gas. That way, I only need to leave the track campground once to refill the fuel cans.
Another thing I learned is the free camping areas are more fun than the Coleman or other paid campgrounds around the track.
Now if I was a wealthy man like some are, I would have reserved sites on Alison Alley at $1100 per weekend.
Not once have I gone to Talladega and not loved the race. There is always a lot of excitement both on and off the track.

RE: Murphy's law and the canopy.
I had ONE bad experience with weather and an awning. About 2am, in just above freezing temps, a sudden storm came up. The awning was taking a beating and I rushed outside in my tidy whities, barefoot and got soaked as I rolled the awning up. The neighboring campers got a good look since they came out to get their chairs out of the weather.
It appeared though that I had dodged any damage to the awning.
On the way home, the awning tore loose from the roof and that took some work to be able to continue homeward. It also required a new awning.
If I ever have to buy another awning, it will be one of those automatic models that retract during inclimate weather conditions.

RE: Flyin J-Pilot Merger
From what I understand, and the local Flying J manager confirms it, Fly J filed for bankruptcy a few months ago. It was due to over obligating on overpriced oil. Pilot came to their rescue and covered a few million dollars of Flying J debt. In exchange, Flying J will be taken over by Pilot as soon as the bankruptcy is complete. Of course, the outstanding creditors will have to approve this in the meeting of the creditors and they will certainly do so since getting their bill paid is better than getting nothing or pennies on the dollar.
I look for the takeover to be complete in the fall of 2010.

RE: Replacement ladder step?
I had two ladders break. Both were replaced by stronger ladders that are not attached to the coach but built to my specs so they store in a bay but take up little space.
Since I fell to the ground with the last ladder break, I have learned of several receiving broken bones when a roof ladder came loose.
A good folding ladder with the proper weight rating is much safer.

I carry a dosimeter with me Is there a lot of radiation coming from those gensets?
There are many types of dosimeters. Google noise dosimeter to see who all sells them and their prices. The higher the price, the better quality and results you will likely get.
In my line of work, it is a tool that is seldom used but required on occasion where constant noise may have led to injury, accident or hearing loss.

RE: Running Contractor Genset While Camping At Walmart
If any of you here have been to one of the campgrounds at Talladega, Texas Motorspeed Way or Daytona, you will have been camped by people running the contractor gensets. I have and inside my campers, they were not a problem with noise.
I have a portable genset I take to NASCAR tracks. It runs 14 hrs on a tank of gas, puts out a constant 5500 watts that powers anything I need and at 20 feet measures 78 dB. A dial tone is 80dB. A power mower is 90-100dB at 20 feet so I figure I am way less than that and seldom am I the only one running a portable genset.
People over react to the full size gensets. Granted there are those with defective mufflers and there are some that were very loud when new. I carry a dosimeter with me and frequently measure the sound of mine and others. None I have ever camped around were loud enough to bother me if I am inside the camper. Carrying on a coversation nearby is a little different but even conversation runs 50-6dB at 3 feet.

RE: Do You Talk To Your GPS?
I actually know the name of my GPS voice. She is Samantha according to the people at Garmin. I do not like her at all. Most of the time she is saying "recalculating."
During the last three weeks, I have spent several hours on the phone with Garmin trying to get some errors out of my GPS. Then yesterday I spent 5 hours downloading a file from Garmin (the first attempt resulted in a corrupt file) and then spent three hours extracting it.
My old Street Pilot III was never wrong and never gave me bad directions. This new wide screen version is wrong 50% of the time, tells me I do not live where I do, takes me 20 miles out of the way to a town 15 miles from me and loses satellite reception once the unit is turned on for several hours. Had I not broken the antenna on the SPIII, I would still be using it. Slower to load, slower directions but always on the mark.

Well, It's just a fuzzy tailed rat. Try a big rat trap. Good as a 22, and won't leave a hole in the 5er when you miss.
A person is not supposed to miss. Ammo has gotten expensive lately.
Anyway, a bullet hole in a RV would give it character and be an item of conversation.

Most unusual tow (toad) vehicle
Today I saw a nice early 50's Ford panel truck being towed behind a motorhome. The Ford was painted to match the motorhome and being towed four down.
A few weeks ago I saw a beautiful 1956 Chevy BelAir convertible being towed by a motorhome, again four down.
What is the most unusual tow vehicle or toad you have seen? There are some out there that will get your attention.

RE: What was your first RV?
In 1969, we tried the tent method. It did nothing to make me want to camp again. Sold the once used tent and gave up the idea.
In 1975, circumstances forced me to buy a Holiday Rambler bumper pull to use away from home when working on some land. Ended up pulling it thru 11 states in five years. Suffered a hailstorm in the third year of ownership and was paid a few thousand by insurance. Sold it in 1980 for $2,700 more than I paid for it new and had done nothing to it. I figure I made enough out of insurance and the sale to pay for either the gas I used pulling it or else the vehicle I pulled it with.
FWIW: I pulled it with a Chevrolet Impala 2 door hardtop with a 454 cu in engine. Never a problem.

Not sure about now, but there used to be a few rail companies that would take you and your RV on trips. I have seen several RVs on flatbed railcars going from point a to point b. A friend went with several other RVers down through Mexico like this and he said they had a blast along the way.

Move down here. Use your camper year round. Go swimming in the lakes six months a year if you like warm water. Lots of jobs at good pay is available and your RV, boat and golf clubs do not have to be idle during the year.
Actually more people go camping down here during the winter than summer. Hunters park their rigs in the woods for the season as camphouses.

I think this is a joke. I have seen the photos before long ago. I do not think anyone in their right mind would buy something in that price range without looking at it. And a person of normal intelligence would likely have a hard time selling something like this if it did not exist. Also the jail time they got would be quite lengthy after the sale. Simply not worth the penalty.
Someone with too much time on their hands making a funny post.

Denpending on how much you value your RV, a good LoJack unit, while not keeping it from being stolen, will allow police to locate it within a hour or so.
Sure it will cost a couple hundred a year but well worth it in the long run.
Many RVs get stolen this time of year by scumbags wanting to use them as camp houses on hunting lands. The RV is off the road and in the woods so they are less likely to be spotted by law enforcement. A LoJack device will track it anywhere.

Yesterday I was on I-20 in Shreveport and got behind a really nice Class A diesel pusher. On the back of the rig was a contractor size wheelbarrow tied to the ladder. I had to wonder what a camper is doing with a wheelbarrow and just how big was the person that put it up there.
