RE: front slide not enguaging

Do you have bay doors that swing up to open. There could be a plunger type switch on the door that locks out the slide mechanism from working if theres an open circuit in the system. The fact that you can hear the motor clicking probably eliminates that answer though. I just experienced that problem on our coach. Got around it by unhooking the switch and jumping it across a 15A fuse. Found that the switch bracket was loose.
Good Luck

RE: Texans

camping man
Remember the commercial about Texas? It's like a whole nother country. Well it's true, very diverse in landscapes, cultures, industrys and ethnic backgrounds. One thing holds true for the whole state, fiercely independent and industrious. Texans don't need the help of the rest of the country, they can do pretty well for themselves, just ask one. No other state's people are as proud of their state. Just look at the flags everywhere. They proudly fly the Stars and Stripes but the Lone Star is right below it. If you can survive in So. Fla. language wise, Texas won't be a problem.
Our personal choice of area's is the Hill Country. Beautiful area, plenty of springs, creeks, rivers and lakes. Only minus for the area, Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Marble Falls, etc., is they've become sort of bedroom communities for San Antonio and Austin. Lots of Serious $$$$$ in those hills though.
Go look at the area, visit with real estate, investment, banking folks and get the lay of the land.
Hope you find the right place.

RE: Xantrex RC7

rvump
I have the same problem as you only with a RC6 panel and a 2012 Trace/Xantrex inverter. If no help locally here's a number,888-483-5747, Chris is the person I dealt with. Sounds like you problem might be the data cable from inverter to control board. He sent me a short data cable to plug directly into the inverter, it showed my RC6 still does its job, just not getting the signal from the inverter. Also sent a RC6 board to go on my panel, $75, one of the 2 he had in stock, there are no more. Pretty good guarantee nothing will ever go wrong with the original RC6 as I now have a spare. Gotta figure out how to snake another data cable from the inverter to the control board over the front door.
Good luck on your dillema, like me at least you know that the inverter is doing it's job.

RE: Route to Gulf State Park Campground

djbogue
If you don't care anything about going thru downtown P-Cola pulling your 5r there is an alternative. Stay on I-10 to Pine Forest Rd., left/South on Fl.297 to Fl.173 Blue Angel Pkwy about 10mi. to Fl.292. Rt./West, cross the bridge onto Perdido Key and on West to Al. 182 & Orange Beach. Stay on that hwy till you see the GSP signs, beach parking on the left and look for the sign for the SP Campground on your right. Turn right again at the water tower.

RE: Should I avoid Monaco?

gonesouth
Lots of good info so far. On the Monaco/HR line don't forget the Windsor or Imperial. Late 90s to about 03 these 2 were the same coach, built on the same assembly line in Wakarusa. The Imperial is equivalent to the Dynasty now. The reason Monaco dropped the Windsor is weight on the rear axle and were going to have to go to a tag. If they did that it would have competed directly with the Dynasty which is the big money maker for Monaco. Pretty much the same for the Executive, better value than a Signature but now they make 43&45' Dynastys with 500+ HP. A dealer in Baton Rouge has one right now.
If you look on RV Online there are several really nice Executives in the 03 range with low mileage.

RE: HR Imperial diesel pusher 40' - 1987 - $20K

Well the Purple would have to go, no Gold to go with it, Geaux Tigers, that looks like a minor problem including the counter tops. That coach is built on the Gillig and had the HR quality of that era. This was a high line coach pretty much in line with the Vogue, Beaver, Foretravel, etc. Guess the big thing is to look hard to find evidence of water leaks which were rare in those coaches. Mechanical, do your homework.

RE: Ca 247 Yucca Valley to 115 through Mojave Desert

wanttoroam
After posting about the ??dip I got on Google Earth where it shows elevations. Found the spot and it's actually about 60' deep. Approaching it @ 50+mph. the road just seems to end, you can see the other side but not down into it. Grandkids would put their arms up like on a coaster. Now if you want a grade turn at Lucerne Valley and head toward Big Bear. 16% grade, twisty turny 10mph switchbacks. Summertime you're starting up at +-110 degrees then gradually going to 75 degrees. I wouldn't do it in an RV.

RE: Ca 247 Yucca Valley to 115 through Mojave Desert

Your post brought back some memories. Our Daughter, SIL, and kids lived in 29Palms for several yrs. Whenever Miss Sue and I would fly out, while there we would do a day trip to Big Bear. Back to the route, a few miles north of Yucca Valley the highway goes thru a dry wash that seems to be a couple of hundred feet, probably just 50' deep. It seems like you just run out of road in front of you and here we go, like a roller coaster, then seems to near straight back up. Grandkids would always ask me to turn around and do it again. Only have done it in a car but can imagine what it would be like in a large RV not knowing it's there.

Charlie, that's Hebert's,(Abear for non Cajuns), across the street from the City Bar. That's the directions given to me years ago.
travelwithwhippets
If you're coming to Abbeville from the West you can get off of I-10 @ Jennings, drop down to Lake Arthur and La14, pretty good 2lane highway which will take you thru Gueydan and Kaplan and totally miss Lafayette. Do Lafayette in your toad.
Again, enjoy the area and come hungry.

RE: Abbeville, LA to Tallahassee

That's the way I'd do it, good highway to US90 which will be sort of bumpy to Jeanerette then gets better. Be careful of your speed in Erath and Delcambre on 14. Have you eaten at any of the oyster houses in Abbeville, excellent? If you're leaving in the AM you should get into N.O. late morning or noon. Should be no problem unless theres an accident. Stay in one of the 2 left lanes as you go thru Metairie, this will put you onto I-610 which bypasses the downtown area and rejoins I-10 on the E. side of town. After crossing the Hi-Rise bridge it's pretty much clear sailing all the way to Tallahassee.
Hope you enjoyed So. Louisiana.

RE: Radio Controlled SR71 W/Real Jet Engines

Guess I'm more impressed with the retractable landing gear than anything. Where's the refueling tanker that had to be in the air immediately after takeoff since all the fuel would leak out on the ground till some speed was built up and heat generated. I'll assume you've read the book "The Skunk Works"?

RE: N.W. Louisiana to New Orleans

The US190 route is ok but rough from Opelousas to near Krotz Springs. You will still have to take La. 415 over to I-10 @ Port Allen. You save a few miles vs. going to Lafayette and I-10. About 15mi. of freeway hop to the spillway then good to Baton Rouge. Make sure you get to the Miss. River Bridge before 3:00PM. Construction from the I-10/I-12 split for about 5mi. then good boring hwy. thru the swamp. The route using US90 thru Morgan City is fine if you're going to stay at Bayou Segnette SP in Westwego. From Broussard on to about Jeanerette is rough as a cob. If you're going to stay at any of the other parks in N.O. do the I-10 route.

Is that why Bowden finally decided to retire and leave this for Jimbo Fisher to work out and Pete Carrol left for Lane Kiffin to fend for himself. If so, pretty cheesy, I said it nice, of both of them.
Were you in Miami last night. Awesome game. It's gonna take a while for this area to calm down. Prabably well past Mardi Gras.

All I can say you ought to be in the New Orleans Metro area right now. It's crazy even in our neighborhood, folks partying in the street, fireworks, etc.
Lucky break on the onside kick? Get serious. Colts played the game I expected them to play. Solid, methodical like they always do. A couple of gambles and an interception was the difference.

RE: Interstate 10

Galena
We have made nearly the same trip several times. Leaving a rally @ Buckhorn Lake W. of Kerrville to the New Orleans Westbank, about 620mi. It was always on a Sunday so getting thru Houston wasn't a problem. We were both younger, still working and had to be on the job Monday AM. Took a tad over 11hrs. each time with cruise set on 65. A fuel stop @ Flying J, Orange, Tx. It's a killer. As mentioned I-10 in La. is 300% better than it was several yrs. ago. A previous poster gave a good description of road conditions. Gulf Coast RV Resort just W. of Beaumont is a good stop, a Passport Park. Also is Texas Pelican @ Vinton, La, also Passport. Baton Rouge is fairly easy and short if you do it at the right time, I-12 is good with some construction @ Denham Springs. We haven't been on it E. of Hammond in a while but was excellent then. Basicly the trip is pretty boring, nothing but some rolling hills till you get to near Houston, then table flat to Miss.
If you don't have a deadline in Mobile, take 2 days.

RE: OK...time for Super Bowl Predictions

OK Bama Traveler, here goes.
If the Saints can get off to an early lead, 10 or 14pts, they could pull it off. They have been an excellent front runner against lesser teams. But when the Saints get behind they tend to become impatient and try to get it all back in a couple of plays. Reggie Bush & Robert Meachum need to have banner days as well as the other running backs. When the run game is working the passing game just comes naturally. A key for the Saints will be Jeremy Shockey, if he's at 100%, he's very dangerous especially on 3rd down. Devery Henderson, an LSU star, is also dangerous. Remember though, the Saints won the last game on Viking Faux Pas', not on their defense which gave up near 500yds.
The Colts are very disciplined and patient, just look at their last 2 games. By the way the Jets were a far different team than the Saints beat handily early in the season. I look for Manning to come out throwing the ball and try to build an early lead but if it doesn't work or they turn the ball over a couple of times, not to worry. Colts are the most patient team in the NFL. Look for Manning to use the receivers that he threw to last game. If you noticed he rarely threw to Reggie Wayne or Dallas Clark. The running game, Joe Addai, an LSU star, is solid but if Addai gets hurt it goes to lacking power. Colts defense is rock solid, bend but don't break style and Dwight Freeney will play. Might not finish the game but will be a difference while in there. Turnovers will naturally be the key. Remember fumbles don't just happen, they're caused.
30+points for both teams, maybe even overtime. Then it becomes a matter of who wins the coin toss.

You need to come on over to the Big Easy "tuit suite", Cajuns understand that. This metro area is going stark raving nuts. Stop at a traffic light and listen. Nothing but Saints music, now and then a "Who Dat" 6 of 10 vehicles have the Saints window flags flapping. Our Grandauter is flying in from San Diego with a group of friends to be here for the party, win or lose, well you know how New Orleans is. All this right at the start of Mardi Gras. We have a local Bestbank parade tomorrow night with 3 Saturday. Reckon what the themes will be?

RE: Albequerque Balloon Festival

I totally agree with staying on the Festival grounds. We stayed with a Monaco sponsored area for 5 days in the VIP section. It's still dry camping. Just enough room to put out your patio awning but you won't need it. If you go this route, come with a full water tank, empty holding tanks and enough propane for several days of pretty cold (+30s and 40s)nights. We went down to the balloon area early, before daylight, while they inflate them and watch the takeoffs. While at the sort of Midway with lots of vendors, make sure you get one of those huge Breakfast Burritos, delicious & you won't need lunch. We only went to the launch once, then stayed home, drinking coffee in our lawn chairs while the balloons came right over out coaches. As said you're free to go wherever during most of the day then as the sun goes down there is the Evening Glow where all the balloons fire up and glow, awesome show. Honey wagons are always close althoug they can be sort of pricey. Talk to your neighbors and all dump together, you can get a healthy discount doing it this way.
The water is pricey but we didn't need any for just 5days.
It snowed up on Sandia Peak while we were there. Another neat thing is if you get up early as I do, the Security Patrol comes by every so often on horseback, with the dayglo green stripes and strobe lights on the horses. Have plenty of batteries for your digital camera, I took near 1000 pics.
Enjoy

RE: I'd like to visit the hills country,TX.......

Great advice on the Hill Country, the most beautiful section of Texas. If I could get Miss Sue away from the grandkids that's where we'd live. We have good friends who live out of Fredericksburg near Stonewall and visit several times a year. When there he puts me to work on his small ranch. Using Fburg or Kerrville as a base camp makes lots of sense. You're probably 60 or 70mi. from all you can see in a limited time frame. Most of the homes are built out of native limestone but take special notice of the gates on the highway/road, etc. These gates are like monuments to the owner, all made with stone pillars and abutments and an 8' game fence to keep deer out. Most of the time you never see the house, just a road leading thru the oak and cedar to ??. Get on a Fm or Ranch rd. and just follow your nose, lots out there that the general public never sees. By all means see the Nimitz museum in Fburg and the Museum of Western Art in Kerrville. Do the antiquing thing in Mason and Brady and by all means go to Gibsons in Kerrville. Eat a BBQ Pork sandwich @ Cranky Franks in Fburg.
MottissMT36RL, we've eaten at that cafe in Johnson City lots of times , ElCharro I believe the name is. Pretty good lunches and dinners but the breakfasts are awesome and lots of it. Ate breakfast there one time, 3 couples and everyone took a go box. The check came and it was just over $18. Oh well I think it's my turn to buy right? The gas station next door has a truck stop in the rear with a huge parking lot so if you're in your RV, not a problem parking.
Enjoy
