RE: Wanted: Pizza Recipe in a cast iron skillet

We do it all the time in our Dutch Oven, If you have a cast iron lid that you can put coals on this would probably do the same. Makes for a great Friday night camping dinner, we usually end up making 2. We use foil to line the Dutch Oven, sprayed with PAM, then use the Pillsbury Pizza Dough and shape to the pan, put some sauce and toppings and cover put about 8 coals under and 12 on top and after about 15 ir 20 minutes its ready. This cooks while we set up camp!

RE: What's YOUR favoriite crock pot recipe?

Bean Soup
(usually 15 bean mix)
1 onion chopped
couple tablespoons chopped garlic
pepper sprinkled liberally
fill about 3/4 with water and cook all day makes a great soup, a bit thick the next day but still very flavorful. Can add ham for more meat, and I usually pull the ham hock bones out and try to break up the meat a bit which falls apart easily.
Can add some kick to it with Tabasco, tapatio sauce or maybe cayenne.

RE: How might Hwy 20 California be this time of year?

This is definitely one of the more traveled roads for RV's but I will also make sure that you know this is by far not a straight road! We went over this route a couple years ago and it has many curves, so expect that as a very windy road. Not Wind, but lots of curved road. The area was nice and heavily traveled when we went so a bit slower, but we went when weather was not an issue. Good Luck

RE: Suburban Water Heater use electric

I have the same WH, all you have to do is flip the switch on the outside of the water heater. The inside switch is solely for Gas operation. I have used both, but normally only use the electric. As stated though make sure tank has water and always remember to turn it off so you dont heat the tank when home and just trying to charge the batteries.

RE: Indian Food

Start by trying the Oriental Section of your Supermarket, they sell Curry which I will say is Japanese, comes in Mild, medium or Hot. Add some meat, vegetables and potatoes and have a wonderful meal over rice. I have been eating this variation for 20 years and love it! But my family is half Japanese!

RE: Help identifying these two places

I had a 71 MGB that looked a lot like the rag top in the picture! It had dual carbs and spoke wheels which were also a pain besides the carbs, it also had an electric overdrive which worked in 3rd or 4th gear. Pretty neat memory though!

RE: Help us figure out what trailer we need!

I see you have a Monaco Dynasty. I hope you know you wont find the same quality for the price and years that you are looking for. I just dont think they exist in that threshold especially the quality.

RE: still broke down

Since this was a Monday Breakdown, I would have thought they could have looked at it before this time. My Dodge Broke down 100 miles from home on a Friday night, Saturday towed to Dodge Dealer, Monday Morning was called with what was wrong (Fuel Pump) covered under warranty. Fixed same day, had to wait until next Saturday to pick it up due to WORK, but all was good except missing the camping trip we were headed on. Just my experience from a not bought from Dealer and it was a DODGE.

RE: kerosine heaters

Some Countries (Japan) still use kerosene for heating of there houses. a couple of tours of duty in Japan we used kerosene to heat our houses off base. The only problems i see really is to find a small enough one for only heating the trailer. Most heat up a larger area or will cook you out rather quickly. They will most likely run out of fuel in the middle of the night, causing the smell as discussed and a general lack of heat for the rest of the night. All newer ones have tip kill switches on them which will minimize the fire possibility. But you do have to keep a vent open for exhaust and will have the smell and soot in the RV. Just 2 cents worth!

RE: Electrical Question

It depends on cost if I would add a transfer switch. You make that call. If I was adding a generator to MY trailer. I would incorporate a plug for the trailer to run off the GEN SET. But that is because I am cheap and am willing to do the walk out to plug in and start the GENNY. I rarely use the Genny so this is my reasoning. Your ride may be different.

RE: Water Heater Problems

OK, before we get into the high dollar stuff, lets go back and look at the free stuff! Most of the water heaters I have worked on in the past ESPECIALLY when you say spider webs, The fuel lines are blocked more than likely. Remove the Gas Line from the water heater, this includes removing the igniter and I believe the thermocouple. This should all come out as 1 unit. Then remove the tiny brass tip out of the gas line and clean it out with some type of Solvent. DO NOT STICK ANYTHING THRU THE HOLE! Use Paint Thinner, Gasoline, anything like that, let it sit for a minute and blow out with compressed air, you should be able to look thru and see daylight. Reassemble and try again. Hope this makes sense and helps.

RE: Shore Power when connected to tow vehicle?

On my Dodge, I know that the Charge Line is cold, but the Brake Controller is hot, which would provide a small power drain. Not sure about the back feed from the Converter or House Batteries to the Truck though. Might have to play and see what happens.

RE: I have no manual, need help with some questions please

Its actually BriantRV or maybe BryantRV not BruantRV, and yes you do have to have a battery on the trailer for the water heater and the refrigerator to work in most cases. Sometimes they will work, but most of the time no. You definitely want the battery in place to control the brakes of the trailer.

RE: Stockton Calif. to Paso Robles ???

We frequently travel 41/46/101 thru Paso Robles headed for the coast. This road is in good condition and has only a minor hill or two to pass over. We start on 41 so I cant tell you which other route is best, but since I travel north and south on 5 and 99 occasionally 5 is usually the easier ride. 99 seems to take more truck beating with out repair.

RE: Cost of Diesel Truck?

When I bought my current truck back in 05, I found it on Autotrader.com I scanned for 300 miles and found it for 21k with only 16k miles. True it is a stripped model, but has Cruise, A/C and a Cummins, was specifically looking for a stick since have not had a good history with Automatics from Dodge. The Truck was an 03 when I bought it, just went over 70k last week. Been to the shop twice, first was a fuel filter covered 100%, 2nd was an ignition switch issue tied to the A/C was 94$. Great Truck! Look outside your area, sometimes the drive is worth the effort! It only took a 6 hour drive each way to go and get it.
Good luck!

RE: Key Question

First thing I did was replace all of the original CH751 key locks on my storage compartments. Cost was about $40 but now no one but me has a key to my storage compartments. The STANDARD CH751 will open almost all manufacturers storage compartments, I wanted just a little more security than that.
