RE: A great RV Park in Corning, CA

What's the name of the park and any contact info ?The name is "Heritage RV Park" and the phone number is (530)824-6130. It shares the same driveway as the Subway and a small "Strip Mall". Just enter as if one is going to the Subway in Corning and proceed East through the parking lot. The park is at the end of the parking lot/driveway. Less than a block walk to the Safeway, Kragen Auto Parts (just in case), and Olive Pit. Gas stations are easy to get in and out, even for those with "dinghy's".

RE: Microwave OK on house 120V No Work 3500 Watt Generator!

When I have this problem with my Microwave, when trying to run it on my 3500W generator, I have to make sure the converter and water heater are off. I also need to turn the refer to GAS mode. When you are running your microwave from your House AC there is plenty of power supplying it, even if it is on the end of a cord. When using the generator, it is possible that the refer is cooling, using AC which can account for several hundred watts. If the Converter is trying to charge the battery it can also account for 400-500 watts. It all adds up. The issue with the generator is the "inrush" or starting load for the microwave. When it is turned on it draws a lot of electricity until it is actually "cooking". The Generator doesn't have a lot of reserve so the voltage drops. If it drops low enough the microwave just sort of sits there, loading the generator but not really starting up. Get rid of the extra loads and it might just work fine. My 3500 Watt Champion will run the microwave or A/C unit fine as long as they are the only thing it is running. It will also run the converter along with the AC as long as the AC has started up and is running. When I am using the generator, I keep the water heater and refer on "Gas Only" to avoid extra AC load. Try these steps and see how it works. PS: gary1p---- Most Generators produce a pure sine wave. They are rotating units and the only real difference between them and the ones at the power plants are SIZE. It is possible that a low cost "Inverter Type" Generator may produce an MSW output but not the Champions, Wen's, Colemans, etc.

RE: A great RV Park in Corning, CA

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but full hookups are also available at the Rolling Hill Casino, just south of Corning, for $25.00 per night. The hookups may be reasonable but they don't include the "tab" for the slots inside. It was bad enough staying 3 miles away and going to the casino for a couple of hours. Could you imagine what it would be like staying so close my wife could walk to the casino?

A great RV Park in Corning, CA

I want to take a moment and post a compliment for a great little RV Park in Northern California (Corning, CA). It is the Heritage RV Park on old Hwy 99, just south of Corning Road. We happened on it last Tuesday evening as we were getting tired of the road. We were on our way to Las Vegas and had no specific plans on where we were stopping. Our behinds were telling us it was time to stop so we looked "in the book" and found this place. Called them and they saved a spot, even though the park was half full this time of the year. Nice place with level sites, grass, and shade trees at each space. It was just under 100 degrees when we arrived. After checking in we were offered a complimentary bag of ice so we could have a cold drink if we wanted. Not a big deal but a nice gesture. Had a nice quiet nite and proceeded on down the road the next morning. For the return trip we decided to stay in the same park, only for a couple of nites (there is a casino 3 miles away) and called ahead. Later that day the owner called me (they got the phone number from our previous stay) and advised that there would be a scheduled power outage that night and the whole area would be blacked out from 10 PM to 6 AM. ow the question, "How many other campgrounds have you stayed at that go to the extra trouble like this"? Yes, we will come back and would recommend this park to anyone else that is looking for a good, quiet, nicely maintained park. BTW, their Wi-Fi is almost as fast as my FIOS service at home. Far cry from some parks (like the KOA in Las Vegas). Also only a block from a Safeway store (if you need to stock up) and the Olive Pit is about 3/4 block away if your "Martini Makings" are getting low;) Price? We paid $25 per night.

RE: Las Vegas

We stayed here, it is not camping, it is a parkinglot with hook ups but was clean and convienient I know that I am commenting a couple of months after this post was made but I want to take exception to the "Clean" comment. If one means it didn't have trash in the streets, OK. Clean it wasn't if you are referring to outright dirt. This campground is like an old "Showgirl". Looks great on a poster and from a distance. Up close it shows it's age. I only needed a 30 Amp service but the one I had in my site looked like it was about one hot day from being burned out of the box. The ones on empty sites around me were in the same condition. No TV hookups and reception is attrocious. Too many tall buildings between stations and CG. Garbage trucks show up at 6:00 AM sharp. Rattle the dumpsters every other day. Their Wi-Fi is slower than dial-up (or maybe it just seems that way compared to my fiber optic setup at home). Rates are not all that great for what you get. It is not quiet, train tracks nearby, along with the traffic on Industrial (local street). Cheapest site is $30+ and you can go up to $70+ if you want a table and chairs. The overall campground is covered with a black dust. Walking our dog to the "Doggy Facilities" made his paws look like he had been in a coal mine after just a few feet. This place needs a good makeover. Next time I will stay farther from the strip and use a cab to get to the hotels. Next

RE: Wide Tires to Replace Duallys?

"Super Singles" on a non-tandem axle configuration can cause a vehicle to be very difficult to keep in a straight line. Duals on the rear stabilize the vehicle and keep it going in a straight line, resisting sway due to wind, etc. Fat singles are great for flotation and not much else.
