RE: Sufficient Diesel pucher HP ?

We had a 36' Itasca w/300 Cat and now have a 41' GulfStream w/330 Cat and both do just fine out West in the hills. We tow a Land Rover Discovery or a trailer with a Corvette (if racing). Also always run with the water tank full just in case.

RE: wet air filter Monaco

Get the soaked filter off the engine. Paper filters do not take well to being wet. Look to see if the fresh air intake can be relocated or shielded in some way.

RE: Cooper, Kelly tires 245/70 19.5

Kelly is owned by GoodYear. I used Kellys on a fleet in Houston and they were as good as any other brand. If you check the tread design, Kelly will offer the same tire as GY except for the latest GY.

RE: LED tail lamp assemblies

If they really are form Chevy pick up trucks, LMC truck parts has a LED conversion. If not maybe you could fab a set from the parts.

RE: Seat belt options?? Traveling with 3+5 Year olds.

I rode a bicycle with NO HELMET! How did I survive???? In Austin, Texas you can ride a motorcycle w/o a helmet but not a bicycle and age is not a factor. "Car seat" was a bench seat with no belts and both parents SMOKED! With the windows UP (in the winter)!

Install tie downs on the floor and ratchet strap Em down. Keeps them outta trouble too.

RE: Ailsle lights

53s are still available. A brighter bulb is a 57 but also puts off more heat. There are also some direct fit LEDs available.

RE: CAT diesel question on startup?

Cat glow plugs will cycle until the engine is warm enough to not need them, keeps the smoke down. In really cold weather I've seen ours cycle for 5 min.

RE: Split Rims revisited

"Split rims" (also known as basket wheels) are the very old style that split in the center. NOT a wheel that uses a 1 or 2 piece lock ring. Wheels with lock rings are still in use today and "Split or basket" wheels are indeed illegal for a commercial shop to repair. Although an owner can do the work himself I wouldn't as replacements are readily available.

RE: Gas engine - AC help on an expansion valve

Old Air Products sells a conversion valve if you are changing a R12 to 134A. It replaces the expansion valve and converts the system to a cycling system like newer cars.

Don't see why not as long as it's plugged in. A/Cs don't expell anything harmfull.

RE: 87 Allegro Class A overheating

Ok I may have picked up on something, you said there was room for both the electric fan and the clutch fan. Is the shroud missing? Reinstalling the shroud can be a real pain and I have seen people get frustrated and leave them out. It really needs to be there. Fan clutches are often overlooked as there is no good way to test them (Ford shop book says put on a heavy welding glove and grab it while running, don't thing so). On the front of the clutch there will be a small coil or flat spring, if there is any oil/dirt clustered in and around the spring the clutch is bad or going bad. The thermostat that controlls engagement uses a silicone based oil in a very small amount so any leak means it's bad.

RE: Water heater on 110

There is a switch in the water heater access on our MH as well. Also check for a tripped breaker.

RE: 87 Allegro Class A overheating

Not sure why you would convert to an electric fan as the clutch fan will pull much more air. It will take a massive electric fan to cool a MH chassis. They are generally only used as an aux. fan. Is it a pusher or puller (mounted in front of rad. is a pusher, if behind it's a puller)? Another dumb question, is the air flow from the fan going the right way IE toward the engine? I've seen well meaning mechanics hook the wires up backwards.
