RE: Using a Financial Advisor - Who's best?

Thank you all for your experiences.
As an update, we're going to see one more FA (with Schwab) next week to look for comparisons.
As to our current FA contact, he wants to charge a percentage of one out of three "buckets". A percentage of .0154 Yikes that seems like a lot.
However, if my personal best effort can net 5 percent and he can net 8 to 10 percent, wouldn't it be worth it to hire him?
Plus it would put me in a supervisory role, not having to keep up with bunches of market information.
Again, I'm looking for experiences with FA - not so much opinions.

RE: 2011 Superduty Diesel Looking Good

2011 - there is a little information out about it already.
Ford built graphite/iron engine block with aluminum heads.
Some kind of dual stage turbo that I don't understand very well.
Do some searches. . .and watch for it.
This one will make or break Ford trucks.

RE: Using a Financial Advisor - Who's best?

We have an advisor that was recommended by Schwab where we have all of our investments. They work on a fee basis, around 1%, payable quarterly. They take the money out of the investments so it is relatively painless.
The advantage of this arrangement is that they make more money if I make more money. In addition, they are able to purchase large quantities of fixed income investments (eg. bonds) at a discount and spread them over their clients. If I bought them by myself I would pay full boat.
Your local Schwab office should be able to recommend someone.
Thanks Dick,
We're slightly overhwelmed with new information. The better we do in the marketplace, the better he does. First, apparently it takes a larger firm - one that can swing enough high net clients so that the firm earns a discount with "preferred" positions when they buy.
I'll check in with Schwab. . .I need at least three comparison advisors to pitch me. Thanks for the tip.
My question is for those who have worked with a financial adviser;
What was your experience?
Was it worth it?
What are the pros and cons?

Using a Financial Advisor - Who's best?

We've interviewed with a local financial adviser with whom we feel very comfortable.
He's attempted to learn our goals in life and develop a basic analysis and plan for us.
I've asked a few very pointed questions regarding fees and whatnot and have gotten good answers during our interviews - which now total three hours at no charge.
I've already learned enough to save myself big $$$ if I wanted to do it on my own.
The thing is, I feel like I'm hiring a financial gun slinger who can shoot a lot better than me.
And he may be worth the fees.
Fees are a percentage of one pot - the pot that he would manage.
The other pots I or my trust will manage and are not subject to his fees - only his financial advice.
My question is for those who have worked with a financial adviser;
What was your experience?
Was it worth it?
What are the pros and cons?

RE: Dually flat tire ?

What about keeping one of those "Spare in a Can" thingies?
And a small compressor.
Any thoughts?

RE: Bye Onan and Honda

The Sixty Minutes TV program showed multiple large transformer sized boxes at the E-bay and Google facilities that were Bloom Energy boxes.
These bloom boxes at ebay and google were sitting on concrete pads.
The Bloom fuel cell is scalable. It requires about half the fossil fuel energy required to produce an equivalent amount of energy as standard "on the grid" power supplies.
So. . .that's my TV report.
Bear in mind that first generation technology usually cost much less after a decade or so. . .I think this one is real.

RE: Bye Onan and Honda

Did anybody (else) pick up on the San Jose Newspaper said (showed) that 1KW is enough power to power a US house?
http://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-news/ci_14461347 see grafic lower down on the page
Why the heck do I have 5.5KW generator on my MH?
PHE
I think that's in error. 1000 watts isn't enough other than to power a few light bulbs.

RE: Keeping jacks from falling

Scenario:
Whilst buying grocieries in supermarket, stupid kid on bike comes by camper - thinks "look, what's this" - flips the lock switch a few times - nothing happens - he takes off.
Later - while driving down the highway. . . . .
The precaution might be a good idea.

RE: Laptop Traveling Software?

Wow! Thanx for the education.
I should have started the post by first saying that we recently purchased a MacBook Pro 15" and that the software would be used in a Mac. I checked out the MS S/T and I did not see where it would work for Mac. I need to look at the Delorme software for their compatibilities.
Once again, thanx a lot!
If you find a good workable mapping software solution for the Mac, could you please post your find here (under a new topic post)?
I'd like to use my Mac for navigation, but haven't found anything affordable and robust.
In fact, I posted elsewhere on rv.net (technickle section) asking about Mac mapping software. The thundering silence was appalling.
It might be worth your while to buy a low end windows notebook just for mapping purposes.

RE: Laptop Traveling Software?

Definitely choose a laptop with bluetooth built in.
Avoid Apple/Mac computers when thinking about mapping software.
You might want to check Semsons.com Semsons.com for a extensive choice of smart GPS units.
And you will want to look at "data loggers" and "Real Time GPS trackers" to further educate yourself.
After you get a handle on the technology available, you might then want to check back here with more specific questions.
Bye the way, from my experience with four different brands of laptops using bluetooth technology, only the Lenovo had a faulty bluetooth device built-in.

You might be referring to the Datastorm Users: http://map.datastormusers.com/index.cfm
Their technology will do what you describe.

RE: Carrying kayaks

We thought long and hard about this and bought two Advanced Elements inflatable kayaks after hearing about them on this forum. We throw them in the camper when camping, or the back seat of the truck, or in the Tracker (now replaced with a TJ) depending on how we're traveling.
We bought two Hobie inflatable kayaks with the Mirage drive.
Removed the crew cab's back seat and toss the kayaks in back (along with tool box, generator and some fire wood).
For those with lower back/siatica problems, the Mirage drive might be your answer to getting out on the water. Works for me.

RE: OK, now the ???? start...

The camp pots are available at Camping World. . . stainless steel with clamp-on handles. The pots nest inside of each other.
Coffee: look for an "Aeropress" (not in CW but on Amazon). They are small, lightweight and the easiest to clean.

RE: To start engine in neutral or park w/ automatic trans?

In retrospect, I probably should have posted the question in one of the truck forums (which I almost never frequent).
There's probably a origination of the notion about starting in neutral.
Thought it might be more well known.
Its one of those things that will stick in some little spot in my head that remains unresolved.

RE: Generator Recommendations Needed...

You might want to look at this - same price range and db level as the 2000i but more powerful - and probably available cheaper if you shop around.

RE: To start engine in neutral or park w/ automatic trans?

No difference in what the pump is doing whether it's in park or neutral. The pump is driven direct from the engine by the outermost shaft on the torque converter.
Okay. . .that clears up part of what I've heard.
It was along the lines of some transmission part being activated in park that I had heard. The other was relieving some kind of stress on the transmission by starting in neutral.
Thanks for the information.

To start engine in neutral or park w/ automatic trans?

I've heard different things about starting an engine in park or neutral.
My truck is a 6.0 diesel with automatic transmission.
Does it make any difference, good or bad, if it is started in park or neutral?

Doesn't anyone take the propane tank into one of those switcheroo places like they have at Home Depot, Walmart, etc?
Is there something wrong with that?

RE: State Farm Agent says I'm covered...

My State Farm agent told me I was covered when the camper was on or off the truck at no additional cost. Hard for me to believe. I think I need to go in and have a long talk with them to see exactly what my coverage is.
Big Rig
Your agent may be getting a good premium on your other policies and is willing to "throw in" the camper at no charge.
