RE: More about ULSD

Over the last 3 years, our tours have had 10 ULSD rigs do the 2100 miles to Cabo & back with no adverse effects at all. Engines have ranged from Cats to Duramaxes to Mercedes. GMs occasionally have blown some black smoke as the DPF burns off. I know someone in Cabo with 10,000 miles on a newer 07 Ford F350. No Problems. Pemex has no concrete plans to convert any refineries to ULSD. Mexico doesn't have any use for it. Hope this helps. :)

RE: Cancun decides doesn't really enjoy the benefits of tourism

I can only speak for myself. Whenever I encounter slimey traffic cops (FAR fewer than they used to be) I tackle the problem head on. ANY READER OF THIS FORUM CAN DO IT TOO. How? It's easy but impossible for little old me to add enough to make a difference. We need everyone here, all the experienced travelers to join in and offer help. Even tho there ARE less corrupt cops since the Fox/Calderon anti-corruption initiative, it angers me, also, when stopped for "Driving While Tourist". Just last week, at the police checkpoint just south of the Airport cutoff, a Cancun municipal cop pulled me over for exceeding 30 KPH (20MPH) on the main freeway to Playa del Carmen. He wanted $200 or he would write me a ticket. I grabbed a pen & told him, "Write the ticket". Must have said that 20 times. He kept refusing. The price kept dropping. Cost me 1/2 hour of my time, but it also cost HIM 1/2 hour of HIS time. I can be REAL stubborn (even when he keeps fingering the cocking lever on his machine pistol). When I started to harangue him, in my broken Spanish, about the morality of law officers stealing money for their own pocket instead of doing their job protecting citizens, he began to crack. Eventually gave my licence back & told me to hit the road. No ticket, no mordida. Guess he figured there must be an easier mark out there than me. Moral? These guys are usually gutless. They know they are doing wrong. Just outlast them. I've done this a half dozen times. It works. Best of luck if it happens to you. Be a winner!!!

RE: Well This Certainly Was A First (Dog, handler & Sniffer)

David 42: You may have overlooked Crandle's last comment. Mexico's narco problem was CAUSED by US drug consumer demand.

RE: BAJA TRANSPENINSULA HIGHWAY SEVERED (confirmed info)

1/29/09 - The hiway is now passable enough that the ABC & Aguila busses are running TJ to Cabo.

RE: Driving to Mexico!

:E Holee! We're currently in Los Barriles for the first time. After reading so many of the warnings above I'm afraid to go back north again. You're driving a truck camper, for heaven's sakes. No problem. The RV park we're in (http://www.eastcaperv.com/) only has a few spots left. The place is packed with diesel pushers, one-ton dually trucks, mega-huge 5th wheels and not a scratch on one of 'em. Kevin: Whatcha doing packed in with all those rigs at East Cape, so far from the beach?? Why dont you come over to Playa Norte http://playanortervpark.com? Tons of room here on the open beach. Enormous rv spaces & a beautiful view. Barry

RE: Weekend or during the week to cross???

I hope the heck that you are using the Mariposa truck crossing, exit Km 4. No RVer should be using the main downtown crossing. Too congested for an RV. Last time, KM 21 paperwork took us 25 minutes. You just never can tell. Have a fine trip!!

RE: cancellation of 10 year permit

Darned good idea, Texan!!! The alternative if you sell or wreck your rig is being barred from Mexico.

RE: Mexican Tracfone?

Skype won't work decently on a satellite connection, unfortunately. We know from experience. We bought Motorola Telcels last winter for 150 Pesos, including 100 pesos airtime. Cheap like Borscht! PS: Hi, Howard!

RE: Any RV Parks near Los Mochis near the 15???

A little trafic noise and a gallo (rooster) or 6. Works good for overnight. Yes. Lots of roosters in the yard next door. Go for Mr. Moro's instead. Worth the side trip. Good cooking, too! (Hi, Angela & John :))

RE: Swine Flu Vaccine

With everything you have said, might I suggest you visit Tucson or El Paso instead. There have been 7k deaths reported in Mexico from the H1N1. Yeah, right. Which source reports that??? The WHO, who should know, reports 814 deaths WORLDWIDE! Let's not spread rumors, please. This whole issue is way overblown by the media.

RE: What's your favorite feature and biggest gripe

What's to gripe about a TH??? Boiledcrabs just said exactly what I would have written! With the toys pulled out, you have a whole extra open-air room for living. Electric drop down bunks/sofa are worthwhile. Get the pull down screen for bugs. A screen room takes most of an hour to set up or take down. We have straps & eyehooks to make the ramp a rear patio, with lawn table & chairs, to enjoy the view. We describe our rig to people as a "split level, 2 bedroom condomobile with attached garage". :) Nothing more versatile than a TH!!!

RE: Here is how we boondock. How do you boondock?

How do we do it?? http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t221/marionmedic/My%20RV%20Pics/DSCI0022-2.jpg Now, that's the most expensive way to boondock in the country. Any time we Wally-world it overnite, it's $100 or $200 by the time the DW & I get out the door!!!

RE: can I get mex. insurance with no permission letter from bank

I am all aready on the road to Mazatlan from Canada,I have no letter from my bank saying I can bring motorhome in to Mexico but my registration is in my name and nothing saying there is a lien on it,can I still purchase insurance and get in to Mexico.I have already put deposit on a rv spot. Are you sure there is no mention of a lienholder ANYWHERE on your documentation??? No problem then. Even an adjuster wouldn't search M.V. records in Canada for a Mexican claim. Have fun! PS: We always suggest: ALWAYS turn in your Importation Permit on the way home - even a 10 year one. Isn't worth the hassle if you want to sell your rig back home.

RE: TH garage or non garage benefits/cons?

Who wants to live with vehicles parked in their living room?? OK for the weekend kids at Glamis maybe, but not for a serious RVer. Go for the garage!

RE: Travel Trailer vs. 5er vs Toy Hauler

Even if we didn't haul any toys, we we would still have a toy hauler. For dry camping it has an onboard generator with 40 gallon fuel tank, along with much greater water tank capacities (150 gal fresh water, combined 116 gal holding). We can turn the ramp into a deck or enclose it with a screen room. Plus, the trailer itself is built like a tank. Heavier frame, 16" E-rated tires, and shock absorbers. x 2 There you are! Go with the toy hauler.
