RE: Is there a heat consideration with bed over engine?

Interesting post. For our older, non-slideout unit, the bed is ALWAYS noticeably warm after a hours of driving and it takes a long time, i.e., hours, to equilibrate at days end. It's not been a problem as most of our travel is during cooler times of the year or in cooler climes, and sometimes the warmth is appreciated! As we change our traveling habits, tho, we'll probably add some insulation.

RE: Used Class A Dealer Pricing

turninghawk gave you good advice. After buying ours used from a dealer, we found out by comparing notes with the previous owner that he had been paid more on trade-in, that we paid for the purchase!
The dealer has the advantage of being more in touch with the actual market value than you, since you have very little information other than PPL to judge the market. Hence, do the best as you can to come to a fair market value for the unit you're interested in, then find a dealer that will negotiate with you on those terms.

RE: Packing for 1st Trip

My 2¢:
It hardly matters what you take or don't, for if you need it on the road and don't have it, you'll find a way to get it. Take what you think you'll need, then pack in what you might use, BUT watch you weights -- don't overload your MH.

RE: Should I avoid Monaco?

Hello gonesouth,
Our search, a few years ago, came down to mid-90s Monaco Dynasty and CC Intrigue as comparable units, but after comparing a few units, we focused on the Intrigue. For at least that era, CC had the clearly superior product.

RE: buying and selling rv's

We've not done any business with PPL, but for what it's worth we have great respect for the company -- they are the only one in the country we know of that freely publishes their selling prices! Were we to sell on consignment, PPL is where we would go ...
(We have no connection whatsoever with PPL)

Local RV Show -- an observation

The DW & I visited the RV Show in Raleigh, NC, yesterday. I'm not sure why we went, exactly, but it certainly wasn't to develop a case of coach-envy!
Overall, the show had maybe half the number of units as in years past. And the weight of the event this year was definitely placed on trailers, whereas at least half the units on display previously were Class As. Interesting thing to see was that the motorhomes on display were uniformly of a higher caliber. For example, there were none on display that had cheap countertops -- they were all of high quality solid materials, Corian or better.
Most Unexpected: a Prevost conversion made by Featherlite!
Fortunately, we got out of there still happy with what we have ...

RE: RV Dealer In Sacramento???

I don't know about MasonRV, but Demartini RV in the Sacramento area generally gets rave reviews on the forum. We stopped by looking on one trip out there and came away with a generally good feeling, for what that's worth. Suggest you search the forum for Mason, Demartini, or any other dealer before visiting the company (upper lefthand box).

RE: Financing for older DP's. (over 10 years old)

FYI, I searched Google for 'RV loans used' and collected about 150,000 hits. One would think that there might be one or two honest sources in that list, but one suspects that the sensors should be on high alert with most of them!

RE: Why is every thread concerning weapons closed early?

I suspect there are many other forums dedicated to the discussion of firearms -- maybe you should try there...
This forum is about RVing, only a very, very small part of which concerns personal safety and armament. Thankfully, wherever you might park your RV is totally safe, or about as close to it as you can hope to be!

RE: Motorhome Furniture - Unanchored

Friends of ours had a scare that is worthwhile relating here. They were traveling along a freeway at normal speed, and she got up to do a 'little thing', a glass of water, whatever. He had to hit the brakes, and she found herself 'flying forward' at 60 mph. She hit the front console, but was extremely fortunate to be no more than bruised.
Lesson is, obviously, that anything not securely fastened down is going to fly forward in an emergency stop, whether it's a glass, a person, or a heavy chair.
Needless to say, we've been very careful ever since -- on those rare occasions we get up while traveling, we always have our seat belts fastened! :D

RE: Price on used RV

It is important to realize that the NADA price for RVs is not the market price, like the 'blue book' price for cars. Rather, it is an industry accepted price calculated from a formula. We're not in the market, but can well imagine that the NADA price is likely well above what folks are actually paying or receiving for their units right now.

RE: Need help on an Upgrade?

For what it's worth, here are the MSRPs for the two motorhomes, from my expired NADA guide (this is why one keeps the old stuff!).
1990 Southwind, 36', ~$62,000
1989 HR Imperial 35', Chevy or Deere chassis, ~$82,500
36', Gillig, ~$99,000
So, by this measure, you'd be upgrading; however, the current condition of engines & chassis may be more important than the interiors.

RE: New idea for black & grey tank sensors

A search of the Forum returns a few hits, but the majority of posts are queries like yours. They were introduced just a few months ago, so it may take awhile for people to buy and use them, esp. in this economy.

RE: Guaranty RV Coburg, OR

Though it's been a few years, we bought our used MH from Guaranty. Negotiated over the phone to an acceptable price, contingent on inspection, flew out, drove it back. As far as we could tell, they were completely up front and honest, and the coach was actually in better shape that we thought it might be. New carpet, new curtains, immaculately cleaned.
But, this is maybe a different time ...

RE: How to get DP shipped across the country?

We did it the other way, bought in Oregon and drove it back east. We absolutely would not, however, have done it without being there for the inspection. We drove the rig back ourselves, but that's not nearly as critical.
The market is so favorable for buyers right now, why take the chance? Likely as not, you can find a more local unit at a favorable price that would spare you the cost of delivery.

RE: How old is too old.

IMHO, the quality of the original build and the current condition of the unit are more important than how old it is. Anything since the mid-90s would be considered current, tho this 2000 unit may have more bells and whistles than our '95, and a newer unit would have even more.

A thought: buy the coach here in the US and drive it around long enough to get it qualified as used in Canada when you take it back.
