RE: Red Rock Canyon State Park, California

"Last week there was a post on this park. It was said that they had a dump site there. I went camping there from Saturday to Monday evening. The dump site is closed and they don't expect it to be repaired for some time."
---
The very recent Red Rock Canyon SP thread that I read (and posted to) said just that; yes, there's a dump station at Red Rock, but that it has been closed for a long time, and when, or if, it would ever open again was not known. Just curious; did you expect the dump station to be open despite information to the contrary? :?
I didn't know if the dump station would be open or not because last week someone else posted a reply to a post saying that they could dump at Red Rock Canyon. I thought that maybe they knew something that I didn't. Every so often we read bad information on this site. Some people like to reply to other people when they don't have any idea of what they are talking about.

RE: Briggs&S 30239 question

The db rating on ANY Briggs and S engine is extremely high. Briggs might have a engine with 5 HP or more that is fairly quiet but it will be very expensive, not in your $500.00 limit. Your best bet is to look for a slightly used Honda or Yamaha. I already wasted money on a 4K Coleman gen and every time I camped withen 500 feet of any other camper I was embarrassed with the noise level.

RE: Backing with dinghy connected

It isn't so much the problem with the steering wheel turning. Its the strain on the tow bar trying to skid the front wheels of the towed vehicle to where you want the wheels to be. That strains not only the tow bar but the base plate and the hitch on the tow vehicle.

Red Rock Canyon State Park, California

Last week there was a post on this park. It was said that they had a dump site there. I went camping there from Saturday to Monday evening. The dump site is closed and they don't expect it to be repaired for some time. They now charge $25.00 per night for dry camping and there is no spots with hookups. The park road is very much in need or repairs as the recent rains have torn the roads up. The camping trip was still enjoyable because the area is so beautiful. As far as going again in the near future, I don't believe I would. There is free camping down the road about 3 miles at Jawbone canyon. I would not pay $25.00 per night when I can get the same thing for free 3 miles away.

RE: Where do you camp?

I would rather boondock in the desert than go to any established campsite. I usually have no problem getting fresh water. I've filled up with water at VFW's or Moose Lodges, librarys or at gas stations. Finding a place to dump is sometimes harder to do. But most places that sell RV's have a place to dump.

RE: Walmart Parking Lot Courtesy?

If I'm stopping for 5 or 6 hours of sleep while I'm on the road I definitely will not pay for the swimming pool or the kiddie amusement toys at a RV park. If they would give me a price for no hookups and no frills then I might consider stopping there. But then it would probably upset some people who are trying to sleep while I'm trying to back in and that would just give someone else a chance to complain on this format. Ya, thinking about it, I will probably just keep on stopping at Walmart.

RE: More 19.5" wheel questions

More information is needed. A 19.5 wheel doesn't tell us much. A tire on a 16" wheel can be as big as a tire on a 19.5" wheel. It's the size of the tire that matters not the size of the wheel.

RE: Connect black and gray tanks together

If you put in a check valve and have it open on a permanent basis then you would stand the chance on overflowing your black tank. If your grey tank is forward of the black tank then every time you start moving the TT you would be forcing the grey water into the black tank. Going uphills grey water would fill the black tank. You would have to have a shutoff valve in your bypass line that you could open when you wanted to equalize both tanks. Why not get a 5 gallon bucket and dump some grey water into the bucket and flush it down the toilet. That would be the easiest solution.

RE: Propane on/off while traveling

This from the Atwood water heater operator manual, p.3 Titled SAFETY WARNING;
"Turn gas OFF at the LP tank when vehicle is in motion. This disables
all gas appliances. Gas appliances must never be operated while
vehicle is in motion. Unpredictable wind currents may be created
which could cause flame reversal in the burner tube, which could
result in fire damage."
and they should know, you think?
I think that Atwood would probably know the best thing for running their products down the road, if the propane should be on or off, but I don't think that Atwood would necessarily know if other manufacturers products should have the propane turned off. I haven't seen anything in my MH manuals saying that I need to have my propane turned off while driving. I see lots of other small tags around the MH such as Seat Belts Must Be Worn, and that the emergency windows should be closed while traveling, but I haven't seen any tags telling me to turn the propane off while traveling. They used to put three way refrigerators in RV's so we could use the 12volts to power the frig. Now finding a three way frig is difficult due to the newer refrigerators being safer to use on propane while driving.

RE: Why Some Areas Have Banned Boondocking

If Walmart didn't want them there they would kick them out. This is not why boondocking is being outlawed IMHO.

RE: Trailblazer on a Dolly?

I don't know of any All Wheel Drive or Four Wheel Drive that can be dolly towed without a driveshaft disconnect.
But then, I only have experience with old and new Jeeps, old Chevy pickups, Dodge Durangos and pickups, and AMC Eagles.
Oh, yeah, and an old Land Rover.
Maybe some of the newer ones CAN be dolly towed.
The Owner's Manual should tell you.
Any old or new Jeep with a transfer case that can be placed in a neutral can be towed either 4 down or on a dolly without a driveshaft disconnect because the transfer case is a driveshaft disconnect.

RE: Trailblazer on a Dolly?

If you can tow it 4 dow then what's the problem with towing it on a dolly? As long as the rear wheels can freewheel you can tow it on a dolly.

RE: synthetic or not to synthetic

I can buy full Synthetic Castrol oil at Wal Mart for about $19.00 per 5 quarts. Regular oil cost me about $14.00 per 5 quarts. I prefer using the full Synthetic. If I happen to go 7 or 8,000 miles without checking I don't worry about it when using full synthetic. If you buy a synthetic blend you are wasting your money. No one has any specifics on how much synthetic is in a blend. They can put in 1 or 2% synthetic and still call it a blend. If you want synthetic then buy one marked full. Another thing I feel is a MUST is buying a good oil filter. Why waste money on a inferior filter if you are paying a premium on the oil that you are using. JMHO. Happy motoring no matter which oil you are going to use.

RE: Class A Gas vs Class C

Had a "C" some years ago. Went with a "A" this time. More room to move around. A lot of A's have wide bodies which make a huge difference and opening the drivers window and seeing right down the side is a big plus. I can even see the rear tires from the drivers window. Also I have many back problems and crawling up from the cockpit of a class C is difficult for me. It's all personnel choice though.

RE: I--think--I--can, I--think--I--can

Hang on for a few minutes and the weight police will be right here. No seriously it sounds great. You might not run at full speed up hills but as long as you understand that you can go up slower if necessary. The only improvement I could see is if you replaces the hitch. A 415 LB weight hitch is pushing it. The TT having a 6019lb weight should have at least 600lbs on the tongue. It's always better to have a stouter hitch than what's needed. Hope you have many years of fun safe camping in your rig.

RE: KOA?

I also hate KOA's. I was camping in the Sequoias about 20 years ago in April. The rangers came by and closed the campgrounds because there was a large snowstorm coming. We drove the south road down and found a KOA camp around 8:00PM and stopped and asked to camp there and were told a price of about $30.00 for our VW camper. I asked for a dirt lot to park in and they told me I had to take a full hookup site. I didn't want a full hookup site I only wanted a overnight spot with NO hookups. They said it would still be $30.00. I drove down to Fresno and parked in a Truck Stop for the night. The KOA camp only had 3 or 4 other campers in there. It would not bother me if all KOA's went broke. Then they complain about people staying at walmarts. Charge us a decent rate to get us off of the roads and maybe we would pay to stay there for a overnighter. And if you pulled into a Holiday Inn instead and told them you didn't need a room with a shower,a desk, a phone, towels pillows and TV all you wanted was a bed to sleep on and they told you all they offered were full service rooms would you hate Holiday Inns as well?
Westernparkowner, let me explain further. The KOA that I stopped at HAD tent sites that went for a lot less per night but they would not let me use them because I had a VW micro bus that had hookups. Therefore I had to pay the price for hookups if I needed them or not. And in my book that was a ripoff by KOA. It was foolish of them to not give me the less expensive site, so they lost income by my going down the road. Largely due to that I found that I like stopping in truck stops, Walmarts and rest stops when in TRANSIT and I'm tired so unfortunately businesses like yours suffer due to some other businesses being greedy. If I'm only stopping for 5 to 6 hours to rest my eyes I shouldn't have to pay for all the good things that they offer. By the way, for what they wanted I could have stayed at a good hotel that night and had a long shower and a warm room.
