RE: Tow vehicles?

If I had it to do all over again (we'd have two tow vehicles) I'd get what I wanted in a vehicle and then figure out how to tow it. You can get the 2010 Motorhome Magazine's Towing Guide to vehicles, but you can call Smitty's RV & Welding in Houston about any vehicle and he can tell you how and what it would take to tow it. My neighbors have a Camary and we have an '08 Saturn Aura both equiped at Smitty's and the Camary tows just as well if not better than my Saturn that was made to tow by the manufacturer. I should have had my Navigator equiped to tow, but we had the Saturn. I'd get the car I wanted is my point. Call Smitty's Smitty's RV & welding, Houston, Texas.

RE: Windshield Crack

We had a large crack, significant enough that they said they couldn't guarantee fixing it would work, but if it is clean and dirt free inside the crack, we found someone willing to fill it. It had a star shaped center but it ran at least five or more inches in either direction. It has been filled and is fine. They won't do that if it is in the vision of the driver, but ours wasn't. I had to ask several vendors before I found one that would do it however. So don't give up if someone tells you it can't be done. It's worth a try. We have had ours filled like that for years and still good to go.

RE: Drinking from fresh water tank...

You've got just about every view but can't resist adding mine since we have been using the RV a lot less lately so it too concerns me what Steven King mystery is really going on in the tank. When I get the MH out of storage, I completely drain the tank and flush water through all the pipes, (meaning I open all the drains, the water heater and open all the faucets in the coach). Next, I fill the tank with a little bit of water (couple of minutes worth with a little bit of bleach through the water hose...haven't figured out the other tubes down in that compartment-too complicated for me), then I run all the faucets open until that water is out of the coach (gray tank). Finally, I drain what ever water is left in the tank again. Then I fill it 1/2 full with water, make sure there is water in the water heater, run the faucets a bit more, then I'm finished. We drink it, make coffee with it, etc, and we are always fine. I also change the filters once or so a year.

RE: Is base plate visable from the front of the car?

You probably have your answer already, but if you want to ask a professional installer, here is a wealth of information directly. Smitty's RV & Welding in Houston installs everything "towing" on RVs and has for years. They are helpful even if you are not a local customer. Smitty's RV & Welding, Houston, Texas

RE: Will you look at me funny at rally if I don't have Genturi?

Let's see... I don't "boondock" with mobs, where rigs are so close together... Where I camp and I might need the generator, the spaces are many feet apart, often as much as 50 feet, seldom less than 20 feet... I seldom run the generator anyway, and usually only for a few minutes. Perhaps I will post a sign on the generator compartment door; "DANGER, GENERATOR EXHAUST! DO NOT PARK WITHIN 30 FEET!" Nah, I'll just continue with my anti-social ways, and avoid places where there are so many rigs! The hated word: Ditto. I think this topic is great and I'm glad to know about this (after many years of RVing), but we have never had to use our generator enough to worry about it...reason for DSDP with 50 amp...we like electric and only go where it will be. JMHO.

RE: Braking system for toads

We have the M&G now for five years. I could tell the difference the first time I drove the MH after it was installed and wouldn't go without it. Smitty's RV and Welding in Houston Texas is an excellent source for all information "towing". If you want yet another opinion of a very well established professional installer call Smitty's, they are in the book. I personally did not want anything in the floor board of the driver's side and I didn't want to see or mess with anything except to hook it up and go, one cable and that's it.

RE: Does diesel fuel good bad if it sits in the tank for months

We installed an Algae-X system. There are many opinions on this topic, but our diesel MH wound up with Algae problems and we installed a system to counteract it. We took our DSDP to a local Houston recommended installer. He cleaned the fuel tank, installed the Algae-X and we stocked up on the proper fuel treatment. No longer have any problems. No more frequent changes of the fuel filter for gunk.
