RE: Air bag question on F150

I'm on my second (on 2 different trucks) Roadmaster Active Suspension and like it very much. No change in ride/handling when empty and helps the rear suspension when loaded. No need to worry about adding air, etc. No maintenance. About $300 and took me 1/2 day to install; pretty easy to do, I just didn't have a floor jack at my disposal when I did it.
My truck has the 255/65/R17 tires too. When I wear them out, I'll get LT tires. Make sure you watch the diameter differences on tire sizes; that may affect your towing ability and speedometer accuracy.

RE: Towing capacity of my 1998 Explorer

At one time, I had a 1996 Explorer with the 5.0L V8 and towed a 24 foot Nomad TT; around 4500# loaded and ready to go. The 5.0L handled the weight with no problem but the TT overpowered the Explorer. I had a VERY close call on the interstate that convinced me the Explorer was not capable of towing that TT. 3 semi's in a row passed me at a high rate of speed and I thought for sure I would end up in the ditch on the side of the road. Didn't wreck but scared me enough to trade for a 1/2 ton pickup.
Had I know about the Hensley hitch, I might have gone that route before trading the Explorer. If you try it, at least get a dual cam Reese WD hitch... don't waste your time or money on a friction sway bar.
Good luck and be careful!

RE: Opinions on a 2002 Keystone Bobcat

I have an 02 Bobcat 293EBS. Weighs about 6200# dry with an hitch weight of 850# or so. I pulled it for several years with a 2001 F250 V10 but now have a 2007 F150 5.4L V8 with the 3.73 rear end. Alabama is relatively flat and I have no problems. Mountains and reduced HP due to altitude might make the trip less enjoyable. Probably OK but they won't win any races!!!
Tell 'em "Good luck!" and enjoy!

RE: Dish Network dishes

That's very good to hear!!! I don't have an HD TV in the TT, so HD programming at the TT isn't an issue. I just didn't want to have to get a new dish for the TT...the HD upgrade is already costing me $115!!!!
Also, I'm only 75 miles away from my TT; as the crow flies.
THANKS!!!

Dish Network dishes

I have ordered the HD upgrade from Dish Network for my stick house and was told I would get 2 new receivers. Currently I have a standard definition DVR in the living room and a 301 receiver in the bedroom attached to a Dish 500 dish. I'm gettting a Duo HD DVR and VIP 211 receiver (for my daughter's room) along with a new dish (HD, I guess?)
Anyway, to my RV-related question! I have my TT set up on a lot I own a couple of hours away with a Dish 500 permenantly mounted. I carry the 301 receiver and just hook it up and all works well. I plan to take the VIP 211 receiver to use at the TT when there. Will this receiver work with the Dish 500 or will I have to get a new dish for the TT?
Thanks,
Jim

RE: small boat

Check craigslist or ebay for a used Portaboat. I bought mine new but have seen several on those sites. I love my Portaboat...I can put it together in the time it takes to have 2 beers!!

RE: Normal slope (if any) with slide out extended?

I try to be as level, side to side, as possible. Let the slide do its thing and control water run-off front to back. I make the front SLIGHTLY lower than the rear since this is the direction of the bathtub drain. My TT roof has an arch to it already and the slide has seals all around to keep water out. I have yet to have a problem with leaks during a rain.
Good luck,
Jim

RE: If you were in my shoes, which would you pick?

I'll play the part of my Dad!!!!
"What's wrong with the truck you have now?" "Why not save that money and buy a truck when you need it?!" ;)
Anyway, based on the stories I hear....go with the 7.3L

RE: Decal removal

A hair dryer is the way to go unless you wait until a very warm, sunny day. Let the sun shine on it for a while on they'll peel right off. I'd worry about the damage from a heat gun. WD-40 works well on the residue too!
Good luck,
Jim

RE: Towing with short bed F150

I have a TT, so I won't know about pulling a 5'er but on the back cover of the Trailer Life I got in the mail today, there is a large 5'er hooked up to the back of a TV with a 5.5 foot bed. There should be a way to do this!
Good luck!

RE: Follow-up Porta-Boat question

I used a ladder rack on my TV for my Portaboat (I have a TT). The idea I liked best was a guy that had built a rack UNDER his TT and slid the boat into the rack and secured. He had pictures and everything...do a search until you find it. Like others have said; drilling holes in the outside of my TT scares the bejebbies out of me!!
Good luck

RE: Looking at a 2002 F150 SuperCrew (Need Info)

My advice? Keep looking for the 5.4L. I had a 1998 F150 with the 4.6L and a 4500# (loaded) 24ft TT. Did OK with that but wouldn't have wanted to be any heavier.

RE: Porta-bote

galet,
I was thinking if you have a fiver, class C, B or A, you would not have an open truck bed to carry it over. With my TT, I could use my ladder rack to haul my Portaboat...I wasn't too thrilled about drilling holes in the side of my TT!!!

What type of RV and/or TV? My old truck had a Rack-n-Rail foldable ladder rack that worked great, but I have a TT.

RE: Troubles with "Porpoising" F-150 Super Crew & Passport 300BH

I just added the RAS system to my truck. It was a little less than $300 and took about 3 hours to install. Got it from www.carparts.com. I had an RAS system on an earlier truck and it really seemed to help sway and rea-end sag.

Switching cards in cell phones>

I have an older Motorola Alltel pre-paid phone with no camera, etc. I'd like to get a new phone with a camera (and fresh battery!) and switch the cards since I still have alot of credits on my current phone.
Is this an easy thing to do?
I don't have alot of confidence in the advice I'll get from the booth at a local Walmart.
Thanks,
Jim
