RE: Free Camping in Washington DC?

another vote for greenbelt. showers, dump station and $16/$8. there is a park police headquarters at the entrance with maybe 25 squad cars parked there. not a place where bad guys would want to commit crime with only one way to drive out. we were there in oct and the place was nearly empty. even spring/early summer, no problem. i understand the metro station is walkable. maybe 2 miles. or the bus at the entrance, less but not much.

dometic fooled me twice

my dometic fridge quit at age 3. no warranty here. i bought a board from an aftermarket and it worked fine. at age 4 it quit. apparently just level enough to live in is not good enough. took it out and turned it upside down and put it back and it was good. at age 5 we had to get the kit installed to keep the rv from burning up. wow.
at age 6 it died. yellow dust outside and ammonia smell inside.
fool me once, shame on them.
the "new generation" fridge fits in the same cutout as the americana fridge. i had this crazy idea that, after all the tens of millions of dollars that dometic had spent on burnt rv's and kits to prevent fires that the new fridge would be an improvement. wrong.
the new unit has the same guaranteed to rust chimney and baffle, and must be serviced every year by a certified installer for the warranty to be valid.
fooled me twice, shame on me.

need some hope for dometic fridge

have a dometic RM 2652 with the mickey mouse shields installed around the burner tube
the unit doesn't get cold, the burner unit feels hot around the electric element. looking into the shields there is a small amount of yellow powder..
can anyone give me any hope for the future life of this unit?

RE: Toll Road

if tolls are a concern, take i 80 to i 79 then down to pa pike entrance at cranberry. costs 11.25 just to take your rig into the state if you come from ohio tp. not so if you get on somewhere else.. did it once, never again.

RE: Norcold Refrigerator

i have a dometic so this may not be relevant, but the fridge quit halfway to key west. my fridge has a thermister which can be moved up or down on the cooling fins to regulate the temp in the fridge and freezer. on advice from the forum i removed the fridge and turned it upside down for over 24 hours. put it back in and it worked better than ever.
good luck

RE: HHR Hook Up

i started to install the bracket, but had trouble getting the front off. it was cold out and i was afraid of breaking the plastic. went to the local body shop and they charged me $100 to put it on. i usually like to do things myself, but i still consider it money well spent.

RE: Best road East from Yellowstone?

we took 16 over the big horn to buffalo. it doesn't rank near the top of my list of scariest. that would be the chesapeake bay bridge from annapolis. the dw had looked at the map and said we would be going south and around the mountain for a change. huh. it was mostly just tedious. low gears on the way up draggin the toad, and same on the way back down.
have a good trip.

RE: Coach-net vs Good sams

i went with coach-net because of the tech service, but found them less than helpful for tech advice. my fridge went south on a trip. i called and the tech asked a few questions and then told me i needed a new one. panic. even in a city as large as atlanta we cannot just go buy one. i posted on rv-net and it was suggested i take it out and turn it upside down for a while then replace it. fridge worked better than ever after that.
another time i didn't have enough battery to retract my bigfoot jacks. i called coach-net for a jump and the tech insisted that i needed an rv mechanic. he wouldn't accept that all i needed was a jump. while i was waiting "a few hours" i found a neighbor with jumper cables and jumped it from the towd. i am trying good sam now. hope i don't need them.

RE: HHR towing

bob
to unlock the steering the key must be turned on. pulling the fuse keeps the battery from draining.
nomad
i left the panel off. dw riding shotgun doesn't mind. i did not get a chipless key, and had concern about leaving my new car with the key in the ignition and have it easy to start. with the fuse in the mh there is some level of confidence that a thief could not drop the tow bar, break in, and take off.

RE: HHR towing

i thought it would be a pita to pull the fuse every day, but i put a fuse puller on the fuse and left it there. it's really not a problem. unlock steering, trans to neutral, pull the fuse and away we go.
