RE: Stupid Tree

Come on gmc6000. Minot completed its mountain removal project about 20 years ago and now you are considering cutting down the last tree. What are you thinking!

RE: Winterizing

This may help if you are alone doing the winterizing. I make sure that my pump shuts off when I start sucking out of the jug (so that you know you are holding pressure). This kept me from what seems to have happened to you. Last year the pump kept running so I went to investigate. The o-ring on the water filter had failed so it was pumping fluid out of the filter. Replaced o-ring; good to go.

RE: Cypress Slide-out Lock

I thought it strange when I bought a Torrey Pine. I was told the same thing that another said; that it is the way Newmar does it. I guess I am just used to it now and it doesn't bother me. I look at it as a time to make sure that my slides are clear.

RE: Secure your load

I learned my lesson with a small piece of plywood (about 12" X 18"). It apparently came out and hit the road and my black water tank. Took the corner of the tank right out. I knew the piece of plywood was missing but didn't realize the damage until my next outing.

RE: Skamper Fw

Sorry guys, I didn't realize that it ended up on the same site. I do now!

Skamper Fw

I posted this in the 5th wheel forum and didn't have any responses. Posted in TT and someone suggested that I try here. What can anyone tell me about the "Skamper" brand of camper. I have a buddy that is in the process on buying a 30' 1990 FW version. The title says that it weighs 5700#. I find that hard to believe as light was not normal then. So far I have been told that they were made in the 80's and beginning of the 90's and quality was decent. Any comments? Thanks.

Skamper trailer

I posted this on the 5th wheel forum and am not getting any responses. Anyone know anything about Skamper FW or travel trailers arount the 1990 era. How heavy would a 30" FW be? How well made? Do they still make them? Thanks.

Skamper

Ok, I found out the correct name of that camper that I posted as Scamp. It is a 30' Skamper. The title lists its weight as 5079. Back to the origional question. Does anyone have any knowledge about this brand? It is a 1990 model year. Thanks.

RE: My tire buying experience at Walmart

Thats great! I usually just get a sorry or a shrug.

RE: Scamp

No, I am not sure about that . He said Scamp or Scamper. My DW said she found a Scamp on line. He is new to camping and I haven't seen it yet. I found it hard to believe that it is that light. It doesn't have any slides but is tall in the front from what he said. It has steel siding. Thanks for the info.

Scamp

I have a friend that is considering buying a 1991 (maybe 90) Scamp 30' 5th wheel (Forest River I believe). The dealer is telling him that the GVWR is 5700 #. I find that very hard to believe. He is going to tow with an F150. I told him to look for a data plate on the trailer outside or in the kitchen cabinets. Anyone out there have any first hand knowledge??? Thanks.

RE: "Please forgive me, I had motorhome thoughts..."

We also went through the pro - con process. On the pro side we had making lunch while traveling along with the fridge being handy for whatever. Potty for DW without stopping (always has been a problem). Auto leveling. Smaller vehicle while camping. On the con; Higher insurance, more expensive initially, Maintenance higher (I do most of my own now), more fuel, depreciation, Need a truck anyway, If it breaks down, the limitation on repair facilities. Just didn't add up for us. Nice thought though. I could maybe handle a Prevo (Sp.?) under the right money circumstances.

RE: AC problem

I went to Florida last august. I spoke with a Newmar tech guy before we left and he told me to operate the AC on manual to avoide icing problems. Worked great. No problems. I did have an AC unit ice up once before. It happened at night. I hope that is all that is wrong.

RE: New York Thruway Tolls

I avoid the NYS thruway like the plague! I used to take it once in a while but no longer. It just takes some planning. I think it is time for another "I love NY" campaign to tell us how great it is!!!

RE: Taking Delivery Saturday woo hoo

Congratulations! I agree on doing a good PDI. Also let them walk you through how to use everything even if you think that you know how it works. You may learn something new or you may find something doesn't work quite like it should. GOOD LUCK!

RE: Newmar Cypress 5th Wheel

I realize that your post is about the Cypress, but will respond anyway.I have a 2006 Torrey Pine. I am very pleased with the unit. Quality construction throughout. I looked at the Cypress when I purchased this. I think it depends on how much you want to spend. Dollar for dollar, I believe the Cypress will compete with other units of similar price. IMHO.
