RE: Truck Shop I-10 California

Redlands Truck Service is an excellent shop and very RV friendly. Here is the web site, http://redlandstruckservice.com/ .They are about 50-60 miles west of you in Redlands. I have had work done by them and they are very good and extremely helpful if you need information about the local area. If you need to stay overnight they can provide you with hookups so you can stay in your RV.

RE: Best route from Salton Sea to San Diego

Probably a more direct route would be to take hwy 111 south to El Centro and I8 and go west to San Diego. There is a grade to pull about 50-60 miles west of El Centro but it's doable and RV's and 18 wheelers use it everyday.

RE: Colorado Passes & grades on I-70 and US 50

This last summer we took I70 from Denver to Grand Junction and although it is a high altitude road we had no problem going up and over the mountains. We drive an '04 32' Winnebago and we pull a 4300# toad. We spent about a week in Montrose and found it to be a very nice city with several places of interest, for interest, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP, Telluride and Ouray. Very scenic area. We started to take 50 over Monarch Pass and had no problems going up the hill. Unfortunately, due to an accident with multiple fatalities the road was closed past Gunnison so we had to detour around which took forever. You should not have any problems traveling any of the roads you have mentioned.

RE: ECM Reprogram

Have you talked to Brazel's about this? I was under the impression that they only did this on 8.1's. That being said, they did this to my 8.1 and there is a noticeable difference in power and mpg.

RE: Used deisel search

You had to have been there because you couldn't have picked that name out of thin air. Me too, sort of.

fishing seasons in Alaska

When is the season for halibut and salmon in Alaska? I seem to recall someone saying it varies from place to place. We will be there in June and July of 2010. We appreciate any info on this.

RE: New Format

Let me add my two cents to the go back to the old format group. This new one is terrible.

RE: "Bluehair"... sign of disrespect???

I don't care what color my hair is as long as I still have it on my head.

RE: Would you buy this car? America's thinnest car.

I saw one of these cars in van Nuys, CA about a week ago. It accelerated like a rocket from the stop light and it looked like it had been squeezed in a vise.

RE: How much time should we allow, L.A. to Alaska?

Sbishop, enough said. If it's expensive and you have to sleep on the ferry it's an automatic no-go. Thanks for that info.

RE: How much time should we allow, L.A. to Alaska?

I probably should have been more specific in my original post. The question should have been how much time should we plan for the round trip. My wife doesn't want to spend more than 6 weeks on the road so that is probably close to the upper limit. We might be able to stretch it to seven weeks but that would depend on her. Also, has anyone taken the ferry back from Alaska to Seattle, how much does it cost, how long does it take and are you allowed to stay in your own RV or do you have to stay in the cabins aboard the ferry? Four questions in one sentence isn't bad.

How much time should we allow, L.A. to Alaska?

We're planning to go to Alaska next year, probably leaving in mid-June, for the Los Angeles area. At a minimum, how much time should we set aside for this trip and is there a route that is preferable to to any other? Google Maps route me onto Canada hwy 1/97 all the way up to AK. It doesn't look like there are too many other choices but I thought it would be good to ask if that is the best route or does anyone have another suggestion? Also, how does a Garmin GPS work in Canada and AK as far as the quality of their mapping system is concerned? is it adequate for the job or should I look at something else? We appreciate all answers.

RE: Plastic Awning Strap-Bad Idea

I just bought a pair of velcro straps for my awning. I haven't had a chance to use them yet but it will happen in a few weeks. I'm sorry I can't give you the brand name but the MH is in storage right now.

RE: I-5 Grapevine or Hwy 101 Conejo Grade

When you leave Indio take the 10 west to Redlands. When you get near Redlands you will see a sign that says hwy 30/210 west. Just follow the signs and stay on the 210 west and take it all the way to the end where it will route you on the 99/5 north. Follow the 99/5 north to the 126 west and it will take you right into Santa Paula. There is no need for you to worry about either the Grapevine or the Conejo grade going this way and except for the few miles you will be on the 99/5 the traffic will be minimal. Leave Indio around 8 a.m. on Sunday morning so you will miss all of the traffic coming home from Las Vegas. You also bypass Los Angeles and the traffic that goes along with it.

RE: Can I run CPAP machine off my coach batteries overnight?

Absolutely, I do it on an occasional basis and have never had a problem for six years. All you need is a 12 volt adapter for your machine and a couple of 12 volt cigarette lighter extension cords available from Radio Shack and you are ready to go. Contact the people you got your machine from and they can set you up with an adapter cord.

RE: Is Wolf Creek Pass in Colorado really bad??

DC&MC, we are in Durango also. On Tuesday we will be going to Silverton, Ouray and eventually Montrose. I have heard all the stories about 550 so I thought I would see for myself. My opinion, after seeing an 18 wheeler, several motor homes of various lengths, towing and not towing and several 5th wheels, one of which was also pulling a utility trailer full of ATV's I don't think it's all that bad. When you look on a map it looks terrible but the lanes are standard width, not narrow like I had heard. There are a few looping turns but no way are they hairpins. We have a 32' '04 gasser and I feel no trepidation about driving that road. BTW, the stories you have heard about the scenery are true.

What is the best road from Durango, CO to Montrose, CO

I have already ruled out hwy. 550 after reading some of the posts about it here. It looks like all of the other options are not much better but I know there has to be a way to get there. If anyone can give me an alternative route that won't have my wife looking straight down into a canyon I would very much appreciate the help. We will have about 10 days to move around so time is not that critical and we will be driving a 32' Class A with a toad. Mountain driving doesn't bother me except when my first wife is suspended in mid air over a cliff.

Rocky Mountain Nat. Park, hwy 34

Is it feasible to drive through RMNP with my 32' MH and pulling a toad? Are there any turnouts big enough and are there any severe hairpin turns? I don't want to have a long line of traffic behind me and I would like to stop occasionally for some photos. Thanks for any and all answers.

RE: Checking Tire Pressure

The only difference is the amount of pressure and getting in some strange positions to check the rear duals. Other than that it's a piece of cake. Check your pressures in the morning when the tires are cold and you'll be good to go.

RE: Bridgestone vs. Goodyear, how do they compare?

Well, I bought the Bridgestone's yesterday. They are dated 1009 so that's probably as new as possible. The few miles that I have driven on them leave the impression that they don't seem to corner as well as the Michelin's but they have a very nice ride quality. More miles coming in two weeks with a Colorado trip so I'm sure they will get sorted out then. Thanks for all of the replies and suggestions.
