I mounted mine with two way tape just under the front of the 5er close to the ground between the legs and ran the power wire into the battery compartment. Has been out there for over a year and works perfectly.

I would suggest running them at the 110psi they are rated at. If your trailer manufacturer installed them it was probably because your trailer needed them for the loads. Don't take a chance with running them less. I would also suggest a tire pressure monitor system like the TST or other good brands to keep an eye on them as your traveling down the road. Could be cheap insurance.

I just got a new TPMS for my motorhome and toad. I weighed the coach and it came up that I should run 85lbs. in my tires. I set them for 90lbs. Where should I set my alarms? Low pressure? High pressure? Temp? Thanks mike If you bought the TST system the temp alarm is preset at 157 or 158,I forget which, but leave that at that preset. The high alarm I would go at least 15 psi over your 90psi and 75psi on the low. If on hot days and long runs the high might not be quite high enough. Try it and see how close it is.

RE: TST Antenna

It all depends on what could be interfering with the signal to the antenna. On my unit, I was dropping off the rear two tires every so often, and no matter where the antenna was placed it still lost signal. I installed the repeater and now can walk the monitor almost a football field away and still pick up the signal. The box on my MDT is steel and I'm sure that was the issue. Most people with regular type of pick up trucks don't seem to have much trouble with the antenna placement. The newer systems have the short stubby one and the long wired one. Mine is the old style.

I have had my FK for about 3 years and if it ever fails or breaks, I will buy a new one. It works and and does exactly as advertised and seems to last a long time.

Related question for a tire expert... these are load range Gs on a 16k tandem axle fifth wheel, normally at 110psi cold. On this trip that tire got down to about 70 psi before I could get to a truck stop to air it up. It was definitely hot, but I didn't really think too much about it. When I got it to a tire shop to look at fixing the valve stem, they said it was "full of black powder" from overheating -- did I actually damage the tire, or were they just trying to sell me a new one? In my opinion, if the inside of the tire has that amount of powdered rubber dust, that tire needs to be replaced. That dust/rubber is inside sidewall rubber and something you need to be worrying about while driving on some highway. The weakest part of the tire is the sidewall and your tire is now weaker.

Sorry, I did not take photos of the replacement metal shield. On my trailer the original metal was squared up 1 inch and that 1 inch piece went up behind the rubber seal. The flat length was a bit short as far as I was concerned. It ended almost above the rear tire. When the tire lost the tread it grabbed the edge of the metal and pulled it down and ripped it up. So not only did the replacement piece I had made much thicker, but also 1 foot longer so it went way past the tires. I also started using the TST tire monitors system, love it and it works great. I'm sure the TST would not have alerted me of the tread failure, but it would have let me know of the tire blow out when the metal shield poked a hole in it. I've helped another fellow add a similar piece of metal to his trailer after a tire failure tore up the shield. We also made it thicker and longer. Very easy repair and pretty inexpensive for the added security.

I think if you have the time to invest in making something stronger, go for it, I did. I had a blow out on my trailer and it also damaged the thin metal piece that was installed up there from the factory. I removed that thin piece and had a sheet metal shop cut and bend a thick piece for less than $25.00. I liked the way it fit and looked so much I went back and had another one cut for the other side of the trailer. I now have some real protection there if another tire ever fails.

OK, I just went to the Heartland file and checked a few actual weigh numbers for you. These are loaded weights as the rig was towed into a rally, and actual pin weights with the percentage for pin. Heartland GVW 13,800 pin weight 3100 22% GVW 17,925 pin weight 3975 22% GVW 14,825 pin weight 2850 19% GVW 12,175 pin weight 2200 18% GVW 17,400 pin weight 3650 21% GVW 11,775 pin weight 2525 21% I also ran Mobile Suites units: these also were towed into a rally GVW 16,550 pin weight 3650 22% GVW 17,900 pin weight 3875 21% GVW 17,975 pin weight 3500 19% GVW 16,775 pin weight 3950 23% GVW 18,400 pin weight 4000 22% GVW 15,825 pin weight 3425 22% I think using a guess of 20% on a 5th wheel trailer of the gross weight will give you a pretty close guess as to the pin weights that you might have. Actual loading and layout configuration may make a difference.

You will get lots of responses saying "run at sidewall pressure" My opinion:- 1) Sidewall pressure is a MAXIMUM when the tire is loaded to its max rating. 2) If all RV tires were supposed to be run at the max, regardless of load, why would Goodyear publish load/inflation charts? I say use the charts. Exactly how do you use those charts without weighing each wheel position to see what they are carrying? Taking the axle number and dividing it in half to get the tire loads is really guessing that the trailer is loaded exactly the same on both sides. Unlikely.No, you don't have to get it exact. I have 7200# on my two axles; they are within 100# of each other (3550# and 3650#) with less than 100# side to side variation (yes, I have weighed all four corners). So my loads vary from a lowest close to 1750# to a highest around 1850#. With LR-D ST225/75/R15 tires I need a minimum of 40psi to support the highest load of 1850#. I run them all at 45psi, 20# below their max rating. It's not rocket science! No it isn't rocket science, but your ahead of many others that have never even weighed, let alone weighed by wheel position. Your trailer is fairly well balanced but many others are not. Having similar weights on each axle does not indicate that they are also carrying the same weights on each end of that axle. I can show axles within 100lbs of carrying the same weights, yet the trailer be 1,200lbs heavy on the drivers side.

Our friends were experiencing a similar condition and went to a radiator shop and had them look. They steam cleaned the radiator and cooler, they spent well over 2 hours cleaning. Cost him just under $300 but the coach runs cool and seems to actual have more power now. He was happy to see some change after spending the money.

I installed the TST monitoring system on our TV and fiver. Fiver had metal valve stems and no problems. TV had rubber valve stems and over a two week period had three of them that cracked and allowed tires to bleed down. Add the metal stems and avoid a flat as you travel. You do not loose the sensor, tire just gets a slow leak around base of valve stem. Unless it breaks off and then the sender is GONE. And you have a flat tire.

I guess you can do anything you want, save your money and don't follow the TST pressure system recommendations. When the rubber valve stem snaps off and you loose the $50.00 sender and possible damage to the $60 to $150 tire, don't ask the company to send you a replacement for free. They tell you the safe way to operate their system is with metal valve stems. You get to pick if your willing to follow what they want or not. It's your money and possible loss.
