You can't go wrong with any of the Myrtle Beach parks already mentioned ... do suggest you reserve early, they are all in high demand and peak season rates can be rather high ($50+ per night) ... our first choice is Ocean Lakes with the second being Lake Wood ... Ocean Lakes has somewhat larger sites but Lake Wood has more very nice wooded sites ..

Just came back from 2 weeks at Myrtle Beach Travel Park. Nice people and great place to stay. Off season like this, we were the second trailer from the beach. We'll be back next year.
Our midpoint stop is at Dumfries Va. at Prince William Travel Trailer Village. Only a couple of miles off 95, easy to get in and out of and very pleasant people.

Hi Tigerp
We've been doing this trip for six years and are very much looking forward to next year. We have been staying at Lakewood and really enjoy our stay there. You can get a site in a wooded area or a beach / open area. They offer five way hook ups, yup, five way: water, electric, sewer, cable tv, phone ( site to site and local). indoor pool, hot tub and outdoor pool all this under $36.00 a night. If you are planning on staying at Lakewood make your reservations by the middle of January, you can always get your deposit back up until 2 or 3 days before your arrival date if you have to cancel.

We have tried several routes to get there, there are no great direct way coming from Massachusetts, you may want to try the following route: Rte 91-Rte 84- Rte 87 - Rte 287 - Rte 78 - Rte 81 - Rte 66- Rte 17 - Rte 95 - Rte 295 - Rte 95 - Rte 40 - Rte 17 into Myrtle Beach it is about 17 hours. I have found that traveling this route is a little bit longer mileage wise, but it saves time dealing with Rte 95 and which ever bridge you cross the Hudson river in NY state. It by passes all that traffic and congestion around NY City, Baltimore, Washington and Richmond.

We generally leave late afternoon and we stop around Midnight at the Flying "J" in Harrisburg. If you leave earlier in the day you may be able to get to the Flying "J" in Carmel Church just above Richmond on Rte 95.

We Can't wait to get back there, Maybe we'll see you there?

Thanks for the input & the directions. Does Lakewood have a web site do you know, or a phone number to call? This will be our first lenghty trip down south. We have a 38' 5th & towing it with t Dodge v10, so I want to make it easy on all of us. We usually do a week on the Ct shore in the summer, but wwe want to go down south during school vacation week in April, hopefully the weather will be nice.

Thanks

Has anyone stayed at and have comments about the Barefoot Camping Resort in North Myrtle Beach?

yes, we've stayed at Barefoot Landing. I thought it was nice, but we were just there for a long weekend in the fall. We stayed in one of the more wooded sites which I liked. The beach sites seemed rather close together, but it may be worth it to be close to the beach.
My favorite part is that Barefoot Landing across the street has the Alabama Theater and some very nice restaurants and North Myrtle isn't quite as congested as Myrtle Beach.
My favorite CG in that area is Huntington Beach State Park just south of Myrtle Beach. The beach is beautiful and almost private for the CG.

Have stayed quiet a few years at Lakewood. Love it! they have oceanfront sites, but of course the dunes are in front of you. Their web site is www.lakewood.com and phone is 877-254-4736. they have 70 cable stations and also free phone hookup on site with free local calls. makes it great if you have a computer. they have everything there that you would need including propane delivered to your site if you need it. have also stayed at pirate land, it was nice, but we preferr Lakewood.
